Ad Hoc adj: For a particular purpose only
Acquiesce n: To agree to what someone wants
Acrimony n: Bitterness and resentment felt about something
Alacrity n: Speed or eagerness
Amphigouri n: Nonsensical composition
Candour n: Honesty and straightforwardness of speech or beahviour
Catatonia n: A form of schizophrenia, where one experiences stupor, with outbreaks of excitement
Catharctic adj: Causing relief of strong supressed emotion
Coalesce vb: To unite or come together in one body or mass
Cockalorum n: Self important little man
Elan n: Style and liveliness, vivacity
Elegaic adj: Sad, mournful, or plaintive
Erudite adj: Having or showing great academic knowledge
Ersatz adj: Made in imitation of something more expensinve
Esoteric adj: Understood by a small number of people, esp. because they have special knowledge
Ethereal adj: Extremely delicate or refined; heavenly or spiritual
Flummox vb: To puzzle or confuse
Foible n: A slight peculiarity or minor weakness
Grimalkin n: Old she-cat, spiteful old woman
Hebdomadal adj: Occuring weekly
Hubris n: Pride or arrogance
Hoyden n: Wild or boisterous girl
Ineluctable adj: Impossible to avoid
Insouciant adj: Carefree or unconcerned
Imbue vb: To fill or inspire (with feelings or ideas)
Lachrymose adj: Given to weeping; tearful, mournful and sad
Lackadaisical adj: Lazy and careless in a dreamy way
Laconic adj: Using few words
Lacuna n: A gap or space in a book or manuscript
Magnanimous adj: Generous and forgiving, especially to a defeated enemy
Malapropism n: The comic misuse of a word by confusion with one which sounds similar
Malestrom n: Great whilrpool; confused, violent, destrucctive turmoil
Mellifluous adj: (of sound) Smooth and sweet
Meretricious adj: Superficially or garishly attractive, but of no real value
Mercurial adj: Lively and unpredictable
Obfuscate vb: To make something unnecessarily difficult to understand
Obsequious adj: Being overattentive in order to gain favour
Orthogonal adj: At right angles
Parochial adj: Narrow in outlook, provincial
Paroxysm n: An uncontrollable outburst of emotion
Pernickety adj: Excessively fussy about details
Perspicacious adj: Acutely perceptive or discerning
Pugnacious adj: Ready and eager to fight
Pulchritude n: Physical beauty
Ptolemaic adj: Relating to the ancient belief that the earth was in the centre of the universe
Querulous adj: Complaining, whining or peevish
Quiescent adj: Quiet, inactive or dormant
Ribald adj: Coarse or obscene in a humorous way
Scatology n: Preoccupation with obscenity, especially toilet humour
Simulacra n: Image, a shadowy likeness, deceptive substitute
Soporific adj: Tending to produce sleep
Supercillious adj: Behaving in a superior and arrogant manner
Sycophant n: A person who uses flattery to win favour from people with power or influence
Tessitura n: (in music) Range within which most notes of a voice part fall
Tintinnabulation n: The ringing or pealing of bells
Verbose adj: using more words than necessary :)
Zeitgeist n: The spirit or general outlook of a specific time or period

Fundus n: The base or bottom
Fugacious adj: Fleeting, as a moment in time
Knurl n: A small ridge, often one in a series
Plumbum n: The scientific word for lead
Poonac n: The residue left after pressing oil from a coconut
Skookum adj: Very large
Simoom n: A hot suffocating sand-laden desert wind
Smeeth n: A fine haze or mist
Sprag n: A block of wood used to stop a vehicle from rolling downhill
Succubus n: A female demon who seduces men in thier sleep
