Female Action Figures

This page pays homage to those women who are hardcore enough to make it into the mysterious patriarchal world of the action figure. These are the strong female role models who convey such a fabulous message equality and spirit. They also kick butt. Female action figures are a rare find in the aisles of the toy stores, usually as far away from the Barbies and pinknees of the girl's section. These dolls rough it with G.I. Joe and Action Man (with real camera), and do a very fabulous job.
These are the dolls from my collection, brought to you by the hard work of my scanner...

Xena Warrior Princess
Ultimately my pride and joy. Xena's is a mythical world, where good usually triumphs over evil, thanks to her stylish moves and sharp talk. My Xena doll picks up her chakram from her belt when you press a button in her back. Very cool.

Agent Dana Scully
Scully wins on brains; she won't take any crap from those aliens. The X-Files helped bring alien conspiracy theories into popular culture, and with Scully on the team, she showed us that girls could save the world. My first Scully doll was either lost on a bus or abducted by aliens, but my replacement doll comes complete with a cryopod chamber and terribly hideous- looking corpse. Yay

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Venus
A recent addition to the TMNT family, now called "The Next Mutation", Venus is the first turtle with breasts. Thankfully, she does not clean up after the boys, but does provide a convenient love interest. Venus owns a very hardcore skateboard and a huge sword, for getting her way.

Princess Leia
One of the pioneering strong female role models in the media, Princess Leia showed us that just because you are a princess, with cool hair, you can still shoot a gun. While again providing the love interest in Star Wars, she sets the rules, and kills the Jabba the Hut with ultimate style.
