First Generation

Peter Studebaker, immigrant from Germany to the American Colonies on the ship, Harle, in 1736. He married Susannah ____. They were the parents of: Peter, Daniel, David, John, Christopher, Susanne, Christina, and Jacob.

Second Generation

Jacob Studebaker, who was born about 1750-2 and died in the year 1812. Jacob Studebaker married Mary Snider who was born 1756 and died November 15, 1832. They were the parents of thirteen children: Catherine, David, Susan, Barbara, Elizabeth, Jac, John, Abraham, Mary, Hannah, Samuel, Sarah,and Margaret.

Third Generation

David Studebaker, born about 1774 and died about 1826. David married Mary Ullery (spelled various ways; Ulrich, Ulrick, Ulery). They were of Bedford, Pennsylvania David was a preacher for the German Brethren Church. They moved to Miami County, Ohio at a very early time.
David and Mary Ullery Studebaker were the parents of ten children: Catherine, Elizabeth, Hannah, Jacob, Mary, Samuel, John U., David, Abraham, and Sarah.

John W. Studebaker born 1787, married Hannah Ullery, sister of Mary Ullery. Their children: Samuel, Mary, Jacob W., John, Elizabeth, David, Margaret, George W., Daniel, Catherine, Phoebe, Stephen, Hannah, Lydia, and Isaac.

Fourth Generation

1.Catherine Studebaker born September 24, 1802 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, she died December 3, 1879 Union Township, Delaware County, Indiana. Catherine Studebaker married December 2, 1821 in Miami County, Ohio, Joseph Snider. They were the parents of 12 children: Mary, David, Alexander, Jacob, John, Samuel, Hannah, Abraham, Sarah, Joseph, George, and Hannah. one of whom Jacob Snider the first husband of Sarah Miller, who after the death of Jacob secondly married John Hoover Rarick. see McKinley Ancestry.

2. Elizabeth Studebaker born June 17, 1807 in Pennsylvania and died May 26, 1849 Delaware, County, Indiana, She married Jacob Gump Jr.. They had 11 children: Lovina, David, Adeline, Hannah, George, William, Anna, Sarah, and Mollie, and two unnamed infants

3. Jacob Ulery Studebaker was born June 17, 1811 and died January 10, 1890, at Edgerton, Kansas. Jacob U. Studebaker married Sarah Carson, August 12, Miami County, Ohio. Their children were: William, Samuel Carson, Joseph, David Carson, George Washington, Angeline, Jacob C., and Sarah E.

4. Hannah Studebaker born ca. _____ married Alexander Price, May 15, 1826, Miami County, Ohio.

5. Mary Studebaker born ca ______ married John Sutton, February 8, 1829, Miami County, Ohio.

6. Samuel Studebaker born March 10,1814, married Catherine Metzger. Their children were: Jacob, David, Mary, Betsy, Hannah, Catherine and Samuel R.

7. John Ulery Studebaker born July 1, 1816, Miami County, Ohio and died August 15,1901, Union Township, Delaware County, Indiana. John U. Studebaker married Mary Ann Favorite March 20, 1836. Mary A. Favorite was born in Ohio July 12, 1818 and died March 18, 1896 in Union Township Delaware, County, Indiana. Their children were: Abraham, Sarah, Daniel, and Catherine.

8. David William Studebaker was born June 15, 1819 in Ohio and died June 19, 1894 in Kansas. David W. Studebaker married Hannah M. Baisinger. Theirs children were: Isaac, Rebecca Elizabeth, Peter, Perry, Thomas Jefferson, Nathan C., Henry Baisinger, Mary Catherine, Theodore, William Grant, Harrey Halsey, and Martha Jane.

9. Abraham Studebaker was born September 8, 1820 in Ohio and died in Kansas, married Rachel Jacobs. Their children were: Minerva Jane, Mary Elizabeth, Gabriel Jacobs, Joseph Henry, and Hannah Ellen.

10. Sally Studebaker was born 1822 and married John Warner.




Misc. His. of David & Mary Ulery Studebaker Ch:

John Ulery Studebaker born July 1, 1816 in Miami County, Ohio, died August 15, 1901, Delaware County, Indiana. John U. married Mary Ann Favorite Mar 20, 1836, Mary Ann Favorite was born July 12, 1818, died March 18, 1896, in Union Twp., Delaware County, Indiana. Both are buried in the Union Cemetery, Union Twp., Delaware County, Indiana.

John Ulery Studebaker and Mary Ann Favorite Studebaker came to Union Township, Delaware County, Indiana in the fall of 1837. John U. Studebaker may have arrived several months prior to purchasing land, perhaps even two years, but the land record shows that he purchased from Jacob Gump on November 29, 1838, 80 acres for 150 dollars. This being E1/2 of the SE1/4, Section 26 T22 R10. Proceeding them to Delaware County were John's sisters Catherine and Elizabeth.
John Ulery Studebaker on April 12, 1852 and 1857 purchased land on the Mississinewa River in Section 21, 120 acres E part of SE1/4, In 1855 40 acres of Section 27, NE1/4 NE1/4.

Catherine Studebaker and her husband Joseph Snider settled in Union Twp. on the Mississinewa River in section 23, W1/2 SW1/4 80 acres, Joseph Snider also purchased 80 acres in section 26, E1/2 of NE1/4, where he built a brick home at an early time.

Elizabeth Studebaker married Jacob Gump and settled in Union Twp. on about 240 acres, perhaps more in section 26, SE1/4 and W1/2 of NE1/4.

Jacob Studebaker, took up land in Union Twp. Section 27, T22 R10 on March 3, 1838 gave $512.50 for East part of SW1/4 & NW1/4 SE1/4, 120 acres.

John U. Studebaker's brother's David and Abraham came into the same area in the same time period,

David William Studebaker and his wife, Hannah M. Baisinger, had land in section 22 and later sold 37 acres to James Galbraith, August 4, 1849, this land lays just west of the sight chosen by the German Baptist Church for their burial ground. David moved to Logansport, Indiana and later to Kansas.

Abraham Studebaker, another brother of John U. Studebaker, purchased on August 12, 1839 a half acre of land that was at the center of section 26, . He bought 40 acres in the NE corner of section 35 below and next to John U.'s land. Abraham also purchased in Section 35 the SW1/2 of SW1/4, 80 acres, September 22, 1845. He sold the 40 acres to Jacob Cunkle May 17, 1845. Abraham moved to Kansas in 1855.




Misc. His. of John W. & Hannah Ulery Studebaker & Ch:

John W. Studebaker, born 1787, brother of David. and son of Jacob Studebaker death occurred in Miami County, Ohio on January 20, 1833. His widow, Hannah Ulery Studebaker, came to Union Township, Delaware County, Indiana and settled in section 26 in about 1835, among the first to settle this area. She was the Aunt of John Ulery Studebaker and mother of George W. Studebaker and David Studebaker. George W. Studebaker and David Studebaker. These sons with their mother and several more brothers and sisters came to the settlement in Union Township, Delaware Co., In. Hannah Ulery Studebaker second married Benjamin Bowman August 9, 1850, She died November 18, 1862
George W. Studebaker, son of John W. and Hannah Studebaker, purchased 40 acres in Section 27, NW1/4 SE1/4, November 1, 1855, later moved near Royerton, in Hamilton Township and then to Kansas in 1882.
David Studebaker, brother of George, purchased land on the Mississinewa River in Union Twp. Section 22 in 1844, probably the land north of the Germany Baptist Cemetery where a large brick house stands today. David built a water mill here, the site has had a dam in the river here for as long as any can recall. David moved to Miami County, Ohio in 1855. He died of lock jaw, August 2, 1862.


Fifth Generation

Children of John U. & Mary Favorite Studebaker

Abraham Studebaker born April 28, 1837 Miami County, Ohio and died March 13, 1917. Abraham married Susanna Galbraith March 29, 1860 in Delaware County, Indiana. Susanna was born March 4, 1842 the daughter of James Galbraith and Susannah Sailers. Susanna died July 20, 1901. Abraham and Susanna are buried in the Union Cemetery, Union Twp., Delaware County, Indiana. Susanna's parents are buried in the old Mississinewa German Baptist Church Cemetery. Their children: Mary Ann, William Henry and Rosette.

Sarah Studebaker was born August 1, 1844, Delaware County, Indiana and died January 30, 1921, Delaware County, Indiana. Sarah married Joseph W. Younce August 19, 1862.Joseph was born December 8, 1840 and died April 11, 1902, Lafayette (never married), Charles W. (married Mary J. Gibson and had known children; Samuel and Geneva, Geneva married Carl J., Reynolds and had one son, Richard., Mary Ann married ____ Clark, Elizabeth married ____ Barnhouse. 6 children of Sarah and Joseph Younce died in infancy. All are buried at Union Cemetery, Delaware County, Indiana

Daniel Favorite Studebaker was born March 25, 1847 and died August __ 1930 both occurring in Delaware County, Indiana. Daniel married Amelia B. Sanders September 19, 1867, Delaware County, Indiana, she was born March 7, 1849 and died April 1, 1929. Their children: Oliver married Amelia Minnich, Lafayette married Bertha L. Heft, Edith Ola married Richard Roscoe Craw, Anna married Ora Taylor, Sarah married Charles Brammer, Bessie O. married Dr. J. Eugene Whitney, Mary married Harold Walburn, William H. married Lucille Hance, Dessie Maude married Samuel Colvin.

Catherine Studebaker was born January 18, 1855 and died February 9, 1884 at time of birth of twins, who also died. Catherine married Soloman Deeter.



Misc. Land Records

Abraham Studebaker purchased land east of his father on November 14, 1860, 80+ acres on the river in Section 22, W1/2 SE1/4. By 1866 Abraham purchased 80 acres in Section 3 of Hamilton Twp. E1/2 NW1/4. He sold this and on March 12, 1874 purchased 40 acres NW1/4 NW1/4 just west of the 1866 purchase. His wife Susanna Galbraith Studebaker also owned 40 acres west across the road, Section 2, SE1/4 NE1/4 both 40 acres had been the property of H. Williams. At the time of Susanna Studebaker's death in 1901 Abraham and Susanna had only the 40 acres in Section 3. Daniel F. Studebaker, brother of Abraham lived (1887) a mile west of Abraham in Section 4, S1/2 & NW1/4 of NW1/4 123.6 acres. In 1874 Daniel was in Section 33 S1/2 NE1/4. Their sister Sarah Studebaker Younce wife of Joseph W. Younce (1887) was in Section 21, their land 200 acres SW1/4 & W1/4 SE1/4, joined John U. Studebakerr on his west line. John Ulery Studebaker's sister, Elizabeth, married John R. Renchand in 1887 lived on the farm south of Abraham Studebaker, 40 acres SW1/4 NW1/4 Section 3, Hamilton Twp. Delaware County, Indiana.
For many years a community existed made up of people of German origin with family ties going back 2 and 3, generations who clung to social and religious customs that today remains only in the records of the places they resided and the Church that was the center of most activity beyond the limits of farm life.

Abraham Studebaker and Susanna Galbraith Studebaker children were: Mary Ann, William Henry and Rosette.

Mary Ann Studebaker was born December 22, 1861, Delaware County, Indiana and died April 23, 1948 Delaware County, Indiana. She married twice, both in Delaware County, Indiana; first to Soloman Shoemaker November 22, 1880, he died on October 8, 1886; second Mary Ann married Reuben Minnich born January 20, 1850 Miami County, Ohio and died April 14, 1905 Delaware County, Indiana. By the first marriage Mary Ann had two sons: Roy Shoemakerr and Jessie Shoemaker. By her second marriage Mary Ann and Reuben Minnich had five children;

1. Mina Leota Minnich married Fred Studevent, They had no children.

2. Walter Minnich married Wanda Kidd and had two children,

William Henry Studebaker was born April 29, 1864 Delaware County, Indiana and died March 21, 1915 at Jamestown, North Dakota. William H. married Allie Mae Frazee September 15, 1883, she was born November 22,1865 and died prior to his death. William H. Studebaker, second married Emma Rookstool. Children of William H. Studebaker and Allie May Frazee were:

Orrie Bert Studebaker
Cecilia Studebaker
Dorman M. Studebaker

Rosette Studebaker born 1866, died October 8, 1894, married George Shafer January 26, 1884. George Shafer died November 26 1911. Both are buried in the Union Cemetery, Union Twp., Delaware County, Indiana.
