INTERVIEW WITH KATIE HOLMES!

FW: What made you decide to become an actor?
kh:When I was growing up I really enjoyed movies and television,
and I took some acting classes and really enjoyed it.
I never thought that I would ever be working in the business,
I just didn't think that was something that was a possibility for
me-and then it became a reality.

FW:If you decided to do something besides acting, what would it be?
KH:I really enjoy photography and I want to keep pursuing that.
If I was forced to do something else I would probably be in college
studying writing or psychology... college is important to me.

FW:How would you define success?
KH: Being truly happy with your efforts.

FW:What is your top priority?
KH:Right now it's my career.

FW:What is your idea of perfect happiness?
KH:I don't know if that can really be defined. It happens every day as long as you're
open to it- I think some of the best moments are those moments of silence
when you're sharing something with a friend, or even when you're sharing something with
a stranger. In terms of long term goals and what I want in my life,
what would probably make me happy would be my family and career.

FW:What was the best piece of advice you have received and who was it from?
KH:My mom always says "Do your best and let the rest take care of itself"

FW:How do you deal with bad days?
KH: I usually just go to the gym and run it out on the treadmill.

FW:What did you buy with your first big pay cheque?
KH: A car.

FW:What is your biggest indulgence?
KH: Shoes.

FW: If you were stranded on an island, what 3 CDs would you have with you?
KH: Dave Matthews, Ben Harper and Macy Grey.

FW:What was your favorite movie last year?
KH: Election.

FW:Describe 3 qualities in your perfect mate:
KH:Tall, dark and handsome! No really: honest, strong and funny.

FW:What is your favorite web site?
KH: I only check e-mail!

FW:What do you do in your free time?
KH:If I don't go and visit someone, I usually just go to the movies, paint,
read or hang out at the beach.

FW:How did you furnish your apartment?
KH:My first apartment was already funished. Now I have a townhouse-
it's a lot of Pottery Barn, antiques, I have a purple bathroom that I love.

FW:In high school, were you a geek or were you popular?
KH: All these labels! I think that I was lucky, I had a lot of friends-
I wasn't a 'popular girl' but I was friends with everyone.

FW: What challenges as an actress are you facing playing Joey this season?
KH:Well one of the most challenging things that we're all discovering is that we're getting older,
and we've had such a wild experience over the last four years and have had to grow up very quickly
in a lot of ways. At certain times, certain scenes feel like there's a huge gap between you
and the character-it's very challenging to act with the mindset you had when you were in high school.
Sometimes that can be pretty tricky.
It's fun this year-it's fun to be playing that age when possibilities are endless,
and you do have that future, and yet everyone's nervous about it.
And to be truly in love, that's always fun to play. I'm very excited about this year.

FW:What is the biggest thing you had to overcome?
KH:Probably, like everyone, insecurities and self-doubt.
I think we all have that-you just have to tell those voices to go away and then go do your thing.

FW:Who have you not worked with that you would like to work with?
KH:I'd love to work with Jodie Foster, Meryl Streep and I'm embarrassed, but Leonardo DiCaprio!

FW:What's your favorite item of clothing?
KH: A green pair of Prada shoes.

FW:What do you think your best quality is?
KH:I think I'm pretty open, and that I'm a good listener.

FW:What is your best quality you look for in your friends?
KH: Honesty.

FW: Where in the world would you like to visit?
KH: Venice, Italy. My brother just got back and he said I definitely have to go.

FW:How do you deal with seeing your face everywhere?
KH: Well, it's kind of exciting! I recently went up to New York and here were a lot of posters
and billboards for Dawson's Creek. It's exciting.
I'm happy that they're promoting our show-I never,
ever thought that I would be on a billboard so it's neat.
It's a fun thing, it's fun to take your picture
in front of it and just enjoy it!
