An interview with JOSHOU JACKSON!

Joshua Jackson has been up to his ears in work.
When not starring as smart-mouthed sweetheart Pacey on Dawson's Creek,
he's giving films a whirl.
This month he's starring as an Ivy League college boy who enters a sinister social club
in The Skulls.

In an exclusive excerpt from Teen Movieline, he discusses all things girls -
from what he looks for in a girlfriend to what type of girls he'd like to work with
to which girls he hangs out with on the set of Dawson's.

Q: What do you look for in a girlfriend?

A: I'm attracted to a great number of women for a variety of reasons.
What attracts me on a level deeper than the skin
or just on meeting somebody is power in a persona.

Q: Which actresses do you think you'd have chemistry with?

A: Angelina Jolie strikes me as someone who'd be uninterested in anybody
else's crap and who'd be very much self-possessed.
She'd be caring and nurturing, but not the doting wife with a warm meal
and a beer waiting for you on the table when you come home.

Q: You once said in an interview that Kate Winslet struck you as an ideal woman.

A: Cate Blanchett, too. I guess I have a thing for "Kates."
[laughing] The intrinsic strength of Cate and Kate,
no matter what characters they play, make both women unbelievably attractive to me.
As Freud said, all things for men relate back to their mothers.

My mother is a very strong, opinionated, kind and nurturing woman.
I've had unbelievable arguments with my mother on points of disagreement,
but the strength of her convictions makes me have so much respect for her.
That respect for her spills over into my relationships with girls,
whether those relationships be emotional, physical, whatever.
There are many women that I say, "Wow, that's a beautiful woman."
There are many fewer that I say, "Wow, I'm really attracted to this woman."

Q: Sounds like you have an affinity for older women.

A: Funny, I'm dating an older woman now. I really like that she's so formed as a person.
That's a fantastic,
beautiful thing. It's really nice.
But I don't want to talk about it any more than to say that I am dating.

Q: Let's talk about Dawson's Creek. Pacey seems to be getting much more interesting.

A: Yes. Last year, it was all about Pacey really falling in love with Andie.
They're trying to return Pacey to more of what he was in the first season -
his comedy comes from how flirtatious he is, how innocent he is.
He's not the cool guy in school, he's not the guy who's getting all the girls.
So, when he's flirting all the time, a certain part of it is a joke.
I'm the same way. It's always kind of tongue in cheek.
We can flirt and have fun but, at the end of the day, I'm not Tom Cruise.
Girls are not falling all over me.
That's a lot of how Pacey relates, too.

Q: Who hangs out with whom on the show?

A: On a certain week, I'll work every day with Michelle,
so we'll have all our off-time together, too.
Or Meredith or Katie, but we never cross over.
So, when I'm working all day with Michelle,
it's like, "What are you doing after work?" It's a healthy melange
because you never really see too much or too little of anybody.

Q: What's your policy on dating co-workers?

A: There's the ethic that says don't make a mess where you eat or,
more politely, you must maintain professional decorum.
Another side says, What are you going to do
when you're always surrounded by beautiful women?
You might as well, right? My personal opinion falls somewhere between the two.
If I'm truly attracted to somebody, I don't care if I'm working with them
or if I've met them in a coffee shop.

Q: And have you been able to survive the aftermath with Katie Holmes,
whom it's rumored you dated during the beginning of the show?

A: [laughing] That's as far as I'm going to go.
