Since joining the cast of DAWSON'S CREEK, Meredith Monroe has established herself as one of Hollywood's newest rising stars. In her first season on DAWSON'S CREEK, Monroe delivered a multi-layered performance as Andie McPhee, a troubled young teen whose stability is offset by the enduring problems of her dysfunctional family. Last season, Andie returned to Capeside from a mental hospital. While her psyche was repaired, however, her relationship with Pacey was damaged beyond repair by her affair with a fellow patient. She spent the rest of the school year struggling to accept the end of that relationship and find a positive way to move forward with her life. While in typical fashion, she frequently overdoes it, by season's end she had developed into a mature and gracious young woman who has regained her self-confidence. This season will see her moving rapidly forward in both her personal life and on the road to an ivy league college, but being Andie, she will still find that she can be her own worst enemy. Upcoming, Monroe will be seen on the big screen starring in the independent mystery/drama "New Best Friend." Produced by Frank Mancuso, Jr. for MGM, Monroe portrays Hadley Ashton, a college student who finds herself involved in the overdose death and possible murder of a fellow student. The film also stars Taye Diggs, Dominique Swain and Mia Kirshner. Early this year, Monroe appeared with Richard Thomas and Lindsay Crouse in the highly-rated CBS television movie, "Beyond the Prairie: The True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder" for which she received critical acclaim. Monroe portrayed Laura, the beloved author of the Little House book series, during the pivotal time in her life when she leaves the security of her family to begin a new life as a wife and mother. The romantic love story also stars Walton Goggins as her suitor, Almanzo Wilder. Born in Texas, Monroe spent her childhood in Florida and Illinois. After graduating high school, she moved to New York City to study acting. Monroe's career was launched when she was cast midway through the season as a regular on the television series "Dangerous Minds." The series introduced Monroe to Los Angeles and she permanently relocated in August of 1997. Monroe immediately began working in television, doing guest spots on several shows, including "Magnificent 7," "Players" and "Promised Land," before landing the title role in "Beyond the Prairie: The Laura Ingalls Story." |
