Dick Hoyt is a great Model of Faith in the secular definition. He doesn't ever make reference to a God, just shows love for his son, and loyalty to him as his father. He believes that his son will have a lot of great memories of the races they compete in together, and he trusts him to love every minute of the ride. He showed great faith in simply bringing his son home from the hospital and not putting him in an institution. He did this because sometimes faith is a risk.. Even before his son could communicate, he still had faith because faith is certain. He showed great secualar faith, even though he mentioned no God.
An episode of The Andy Griffith show called "Mr. McBeevee" is another good example of secular faith. Opie describes a man with 12 extra hands who jingles when he walks and Andy doesn't believe him because he was pretending to have a horse earler that day. The descriptions of Mr. McBeevee just kept getting more and more odd and unbelieveable. Andy confronts Opie, telling him, not to accept an axe he got as a present and a quarter in the same way. Andy finally has ahd enough and is about to hit Opie for lying, but he realizes that he believes in Opie and trusts him because he is his son. Trust plus Belief equals faith, according to Zanzig.
The Iriqi suicide bomber is an example of Theological faith, In the Definition it says "a loving God" not a Christian God, just a loving God. Allah is just as legitimate a God and our Catholic God or the Jewish God or the Hundu or Greek polytheistic Gods. It doesn't diferentiate in the definition, so Allah counts as a loving God. The other part of the definiton is "an intellectual assent." By killing himself for the so-called rightous cause, he believes he will be awarded a higher place in heaven. This, though I don't agree with its morals, is a good example of Theological Faith. Dying consciously in your God's name is definatly "an intellectuall assent to a loving God and his revelation."
