Chapter 13:

The Test

"Katie, it is now time to see if you are truly worthy of being one of my warlords." the Master said. "I will do as you say." Katie responded. "Your task is to fight to the death in the arena. If you win you will take Kichigai's place by my side as my second ranking warrior. You will be at the arena in three hours. No later." "Yes Master." Katie replied as she disappeared in the shadows.  "Master what are you planning?" Kichigai replied after she was gone. "That is none of your business."

Two hours later at the arena once known as the Tokyo Dome.  "Where is she?" Odorokasu asked one of the soldiers.  "I don't know? She isn't anywhere in the city." the soldier replied. "Stay here. I think I know where she is." Odorokasu said as he left.

At the house the kids where outside playing with Bayakuen.  "All right, Bayakuen! go faster!" Jun shouted riding on his back. Suddenly Bayakuen stopped, throwing Jun to the ground. "Hey, why'd you do that for?" Jun asked. "Jun, are you all right." Erika asked running to him. "Yea, I'm fine.  Bayakuen what's wrong?" Jun said looking at Bayakuen for an answer.  Bayakuen just stared at the woods.  Erika and Jun followed his gaze. "What are you looking at?" Erika asked.  They saw it, but they couldn't believe it.

In the woods Katie ducked behind the tree when she saw Jun and Erika look at her.  "Katie, what are you doing here?" a voice said from the shadow.  "What?!" Katie asked in surprise. "You should be at the arena getting ready." Odorokasu said as he came from the shadow.  "I just had to see them." "It's been six months. You should of been over them by now." "Brother, They are true memories, It's a little hard to forget about them." Katie said as she gave one last look at the two kids who were still looking at the woods and walked into the shadows.

"Erika, was that who I think it was?" Jun asked taking his eyes from the woods.  "Yea, it was." Erika replied.  "Why do you think she came back." " I don't know, Jun, I don't know."

Back at the arena.  "Who am I fighting?" Katie asked a soldier. "We do not yet know. You will not find out until you make your entrance." "Katie, are you ready?" Odorokasu asked as he entered the room. "Yea, as ready as I'll ever be."

"Attention. Everybody settle down." A soldier announced over the roar of the crowd.  After about five minuets they settled down.  "I present to you the challengers. Open the gate!" The soldier  commanded.  A gate opened on the north side of the arena, and nine people walked out. The entire arena started booing. "Man, what a welcoming committee." Shu commented sourly. "What, did you expect them to actually cheer for the good guys" Touma commented.  "Attention!" The Master yelled getting the attention of everyone in the arena.  The Troopers, Masho, and Kayura looked up to where the voice came from.  All they could see was a black shadow with Odorokasu on one side and another warrior on the other. "You will fight to the death. You cannot use any weapons or magic.  If you should happen to win then you will remain alive.  If  my warrior wins she will take her place next to me as my second highest ranking warrior." the Master announced. "She? He actually said she." Seiji said in surprise. "Do you think he means who I think he means?" Ryo asked. Nobody was able to respond to the question before the Master spoke again. "Enter my warrior." The south gate opened and a lone warrior walked out. She was dressed in a plain brown outfit, a pair of pants and a shirt. She had no wepons and she knew no magic. The entire arena started cheering for this warrior. "They expect us to fight her?" Shin asked worried, "we can't! There's no way that I'll fight her." "Shin, let's just see what she'll do." Anubus said. Katie looked up at the Master and then to Odorokasu.  Odorokasu gave her a reassuring nod telling her to go ahead.  Katie looked back at her Challengers.  'Remember, they want to take you away from Matt.  You can't trust them.' Katie thought to herself.  She stood there for what seemed like an eternity. Then she attacked.  Naza faced Katie first.  He blocked her first attack and tried to punch her back.  While Katie and Naza where facing off, the others decided to try and figure out what to do.  "We all agree that we can't die now and we don't want to kill Katie either." Kayura confirmed.  " And I don't think they'll end this in a stall mate." Rajura added. Just then Naza came flying by and hit the wall falling uncontious. "Is it just me or has she gotten stronger." Shu asked. "Well, who's next?" Katie asked looking at each of them. "I guess I'll go" Seiji annownced. Seiji and Katie sarted to fight and the others went back to their meeting. "Do you think they'll accept it if we just knock her out?" Shin suggested. "I don't think so. If she looses and we don't kill her somebody else probably will." Kayura answered. They all looked back to the fight. Seiji had just gotten some good hits in when Katie kicked him in the head sending him to the ground but not out. "I think she's gotten some of her streangth from the master."Anubus said. Suddenly there was a sickning thud and everybody looked up to see Seiji halfway over one of the walls. He was then pushed back over and landed in a heap on the ground unable to move. "Two down, seven to go." Katie said as she walked back across the arena to where the others were. "So, who's next?" Ryo asked looking at the others. " I'll go." Rajura said as he started torward Katie. "The way this is going she's going to knock us out before we figure out what to do." Touma said. "Yea, unfortunatly we have the down side. At least she's never fought with the Masho or Kayura, but she's practiced with us. She knows how we fight." Ryo put in. The crowd suddenly roard loud and they looked over to see Rajura on the ground not moving. "She's good." Kayura said. "I'll show her not to mess with us." Shu said as he left the group. "This meeting is getting smaller and smaller." Ryo said. "Any ideas?" Shin asked, "I would really like to avoid this fight if I have to." "Don't worry Shin. I still think that I was able to get to her a little bit." Kayura said. "What do you mean?" Anubus asked. "Even though she relized that the memorize that I gave her were false, some of them were true. Like the children. I think she still cares for them." Kayura explained. "If she does then that is her weakness." Touma said. Just as Touma finished saying that Shu came flying into the group knocking them all down, and throwning Kayura into a wall knocking her out. "All right, two with one stone." Katie said triuphently. Touma stood up and walked over to Katie. As they fought Touma started asking if she still cared about the kids. Katie admitted she did and then gave him one last kick below the belt and picked up a rock and threw it at his head knocking him out. "Hey no fair she used a wepeon." Ryo yelled. "No, I used a rock." Katie answered back as she attacked him. Shin and Anubus watched as Katie and Ryo fought. "She seems to be lightening up on her atacks a little." Anubus observed. "I wonder if Touma said something to her about the kids?" Shin asked. "That would be my guess" Anubus replied. Katie started to attack harder as she put the thoughts of the kids to the back of her head. With one kick to the head Ryo was down. Shin had a worried look on his face as Katie approuched them. "Don't worry, Shin. I'll go next" Anubus reasured him. Anubus was able to hold out for about 20 min. and then fell not to be getting up." Well, looks like your the last one." Katie said walking toward Shin. " I won't fight you Katie!" Shin yelled. "Then this is gonna be easy." Katie said tryuphantly as she attacked. Shin doged the attack and ran to the other side of the arena. "I won't fight you!" Shin yelled again staying as far away as possible. "This is stupid. You are nothing but a chicken." Katie yelled back," Master, how am I to fight him when he won't face me." "Katie, you may think he is the last one, but the thers are not yet dead." the Master told her. Katie relized that once the others where truly finished, Shin would be easy to get to. Odorokasu threw her one of her swords so she could finish them off. Katie went over to where Ryo was laying and raised the sword above her head ready to strike. Ryo looked her in the eyes. Katie couldn't stand it, she looked up and right into Shin's eyes.

Ryo's voice echoed in Katie's head. Katie remembered when she had to chase Shu around the table to try and keep him from cheating on his diet, and when Seiji broke the sound barrier so he could fix his hair. She remembered how much they would try to cheer her up when she was down.

Katie lowered the sword and adressed the Master. "Master, I beleive that giving them the fate of death would be a way to cease their suffering. If they remain alive they'll have to face their defete everyday for the rest of their lives." "Hmm. Interesting. I don't beleive I've ever thought of it that way." the Master announced, "So, be it. They will not die but will suffer for their defete everyday. Katie you have shown me that you are strong and smart. You will now take your place as my second highes ranking warrior." "Thank you, Master."Katie replied as she left the arena. "Master, I do not understand. She did not kill them." Kichigai asked. "Kichigai, that is exactly why. You would of killed them. She gave them a fate worse then death. Why do you think I kept those four in the dungen for a hunderd years." the Master stated as he retured to his chambers.

Back at the Tower. "Katie I'm so proud of you!" Odorokasu exclaimed. For some reason Katie didn't share in his enthusasm. "Katie, what's wrong?" Odorokasu asked. "I couldn't do it." "What? Couldn't do what?" "I couldn't kill them." "But you said..." "Yea I said. Brother, I made that up in 2 seconds. The fact is I couldn't do it." "But, why?" "I'm not sure. Something inside me just said that I couldn't, and I couldn't ignore it." "That doesn't matter now. You acomplished something great today and that means a celebration. The fight is now in the past. You are now below me and the Master. No one else can tell you what to do but me or him." "Right as always." Katie replied.

The next day in the Master's chambers. " I have come to trust the two of you. I am now ready to leave you here to keep watch over the city. I will be returning to my home. If something happenes try to handle it by yourselves. If you can't you know where to find me. Is that understood?" "Yes Master." Katie and Odorokasu replied together. "Fine, from now on Odorokasu is in charge. I will come by once a month to see how you are doing. Farwell" The Master then dissapeared. The room which was once dark and filled with shadows was now lit with several candals reveling the room as it acually is. It was a small room, no bigger then a two car garage. On one wall lined the nine crystal armor orbs of the elemental and sesional yoroi. In the center was a throne which now belonged to Odorokasu.

Odorokasu would rule over the City, with Katie at his side, for the next year. With no one making trouble for them they had a easy time keeping everything as the Master wanted it. He was very pleased with the two and knew he had made a good choice. Kichigai, on the other hand, despised them both and knew that one day they would not be the perfect warriors the Master had grew to beleive.

Hi,

OK, I somehow messed up on one of the names. In Chapter 10 I mentioned a warrior by the name of Kichigai. Somehow I accidentaly changed the name to Achigai. They are the same person. So if you were wondering where these warriors came from now you know.

So what do you think? Please tell me!! As always suggestion, praises, and/or flames are appretiated (and wanted, well not the flames)
