The next morning all was quiet. Sarah sat on
the couch in the dinning room looking though the skylight in the ceiling.
"Aren't you going to do anything?" Mike asked from
where he sat at the table eating breakfest.
"I'm thinking" Sarah replied not taking her eyes
away from the sky.
"About what?" Erika asked turning around in her
chair. Sarah looked at Erika and then turned her gaze to the mantel.
On the wood shelf above the fireplace sat two items, the picture of Jun's
grandfather on the tiger, and the round crystal sphere.
"Well, I don't have a choice but to look for the
wearers." Sarah sateed as she stood up," Whoever this evil is, he will
surly have them guarded, witch me3ans a battle."
"Don't worry! We'll be there to help!" Mike exclaimed.
"I don't think so. I'm not going to get myself
killed." Erika proclaimed.
"Erika's right. I can't risk taking you along."
Sarah said walking over to the mantel.
"But Sarah!" Mike protestd.
"No, Mike. I also know that it is a risk to
leave you here alone." Sarah stated picking up the picture.
"Either way we're in the way." Seth spoke up.
"If only there was a way to be in two places at
the same time." Sarah sighed. She placed the picture back on
the mantel and leaned her head on the edge. The kids looked at each
other racking their minds, trying to come up with an idea. Ami looked
up and around the quiet room. She pulled on Seths sleeve to get his
attention.
"What's the matter Ami?" Seth asked looking over
at the young girl. Ami pointed to her ear, but only got a confused
look from Seth. Ami motiond him down nad placed his hand behind his
ear.
"You hear something?" Seth asked as the others looked
over at the two to see Ami nod.
"I don't hear anything." Erika stated as she strained
her ears. Sarah lifted her head from the mantel and grabed the crystal
orb.
"Outside." Sarah stated as she walked dowared the
door. Everyone stood up from the table and followed her. Sarah
opened the door a crack and peeked out. In the middle of the drive,
looking right at her sat a large white tiger.
"I thought white tigers had blue eyes." Mike asked.
Sarah looked back to see that the kids had opened the door so they could
see.
"I bet this is that one tiger." Seth stated in awe.
"Stay in the house." Sarah commanded as she stepped
through the door. There were some complaints but they were silenced
by a look from Sarah. She krept closer and closer to the tiger,
her hands extended to show she was friendly. The tiger who had been
sitting on it's haunches stood and backed a way a few inches. "You're
Byakuen aren't you?" The tiger let out a small woof of a yes. Sarah
approached the tiger and let him sniff her hand. She raised her other
hand to touch his fur, but hesitated. Byakuen saw she was unsure
and licked her hand, assuring her it was okay. Sarah patted the tiger's
head and scratched behind his ears.
"Will you protect them for me, in my absence?" Sarah
asked looking into the tigers eyes. Byakuen looked past Sarah to
the kids who now stood on the porch. "I need to find your charges."
Sarah explained, "But I do not want to leave them unprotected." Byakuen
nodded, agreeing to protect these new charges. He walked around Ssarah
and to the porch. The kids, afried, ran into the house. All
of the, that is, but one. Jun remained on the porch watching the
large tiger. Byakuen walked up to him, walked around him, and sniffed
him. "That's his grandson" Sarah explined to Byakuen. Byakuen
looked at the boy and licked his face. Jun giggled and hugged the
tiger. Knowing itwas now safe, the rest of the kids joined in a massive
cuddle session with the large black and white cat.
Sarah looked to the clear sky, it was now noon.
In the distance she could see the balck coulds that covered the city.
She knew that what ever it was that did this knew about her and she knew
she was a threat to their plans. Sarah felt a nudge on her leg and
pulled herself from her thoughts and looked down into Byakuen's eyes.
"I know," Sarah stated as she looked over at the
kids, "I should go now." Sarah said good bye to the kids, almost afraid
to leave, but when she looked back at the tiger she knew he would protect
them. Sarah grabbed a few items she thought she might need and climbed
into the van and took off, watching the kids slowly dissapear in the rearview
mirror.
"My master, the girl has left the house and seems
to be heading toward the dormant volcano." A soldier stated as he knelt
in a dark room with only one candle that highlighted him.
"It seems she may try to find the wearers after
all." The master mussed.
"Should I attack the ones she left behind?" The
soldier asked looking up into the darkness before him.
"No, I do not think that is neccisary now.
Meet her at the volcano, and stop her from awaking the wearer." The
master commanded.
"Yes sir." The soldier replied as he stood and left.
"Should we be worried about her?" A warroir asked
as he stepped out of the shadows and into the light offered by the candle.
"If she is truly determained to wake the wearers,
Ther may be nothing you can do." The master replied looking at the warrior
who was busy looking into a portal that viewed a small van stuck on the
side of the road with a flat tire.
A few hours and a flat tire later Sarah arrived at
the basse of the great volcano. She stepped out of the van and looked
att he mountain in front of her.
"There is no way I'm climbing all the way up." Sarah
stated as she leaned back onto the van," But there is now way this peice
of junk is going to make it up that overgrown road."
"do you need some help, child?" Sarah turned on
her heel to face the voice that spoke. In front of her stood an old
monk, a kasa on his head hiding all but his mouth and his long silvery
white hair, and a wooden staff in one hand.
"I need to get to the top, but there's not way my
van would make it." Sarah explained.
"Sometimes answers do not lie in what technology
has provided." The monk reponded.
"But tecknology is made to make things easier."
Sarah stated turning away from the monk.
"Then why aren't you on your way up?" The monk asked.
Sarah turned to look at the old man but found he was goine. She walked
over to wher ehe stood, but found no trace of him. Turnning to walk
back to the van she came face to rear with a chocolate brown horse.
"How did you get here, boy?" She asked as she wlked
around the animal. It was a beautiful creature with a saddle and
reins already in place. Sarah shrugged it off figureing the monk
had left it for her to use. Placing her foot in the sturrup and pulled
herself onto the saddle. "Okay, go up the mountain." Sarah intructed.
The hourse shook his head and swished his tail, and then turning in the
oppisite direction stated to head away fro mthe volcano. "No, that way!
That way!" Sary exclaimed as she tried to turn the horse around.
"Seth, what are you doing?" Jun asked as he walked
up to the table.
"I'm making a map of the places these wearers are."
Seth replied as he highlighted the Naruto whirlpools.
"How long do you think it's going to take for her
to find them all?" Jun asked as he watched Seth work.
"I don't know. It'll take her like a week
or more to drive to Mt. Daisetsu." Seth explained.
"And the more wwearers she wakes, hte more soldiers
that evil will send to try and stop her." Erika stated as she brought out
some tea for her and Seith.
"Do you think Sarah is all right?" Jun asked looking
at the two oldest.
"Dont' worry. She has that new armor of hers.
She'll be all right." Erika reasured the young boy.
"Ow.... ow.... ow... I hope we're almost there." Sarah complained as she pobbed up and down on the horse. She looked up to the end of the road, but just as joy was about to over run her, the hourse stopped suddenly and made a bit of a rukus. As Sarah clung to his neck trying not to fall off, she tried to calm the animal down, with no sucess. As she clung for dear life the horse desided to buck and threw Sarah onto the ground. She scrammbled up and out of the way of the horse as it ran back down the path. "GREAT!!!" Sarah exclaimed, "Though... something must of spooked him." Sarah desided not to take any chances and donned the brown and white armor she was given just the night before, and headed up the rest of the mountain.
"Where did you get that armor?" The warrior asked
as he sat in his quarters watching Sarah as she climbed the mountain.
"What is the matter Odorokasu? Are you worried
about this child?" Another warrior asked as he appeared.
"Kichigai! How many time must I tell you not to
come into my home without my permssion!" Odorokasu yelled as he jumped
up, the portal disapearing.
"Enough, anyways. I was wondering how she got this
armor. You wouldn't know anything about it would you?" Kichigai asked
as he walked around Odorokasu.
"Are you accusing me of giving it to her or something?"
Odorokasu asked a bit shocked.
"I don't know, should I be?" Kichigai asked eyeing
the other warrior.
"I don't think you have to worry about that.
I would be one of the last to go against our master." Odorokasu stated.
"I'm glad to hear that, then it wouldn't bother
you to know, that if the soldiers fail, the Master is going to have you
go after her." Kichigai laughed as he dissapeared.
"If it is so, then I will." Odorokasu yelled into
the empty space Kichigai once filled.
The lava flowed along the rocks, like water in a stream. The heat
could be felt from where Sarah stood on the rim looking down at the hot
liquid below.
"You've got to be kidding." Sarah wimpered.
"What is the matter, child?" A soldier asked appearing
behind Sarah, "You aren't afraid are you?"
"Of... Of course not!" Sarah yelled as she took
somewhat of a fighting stance.
"You lie, I can see right through you." The soldier
laughed waving his staff through the air, "I bet you don't even know how
to fight!! Is your puny little armor going to show you how?"
"I don't need any armor to beat you!" Sarah proclaimed,
'what am I saying!! I don't know the first thing about fighting!!!'
"we'll just see about that!" The soldier yelled
as he advanced on the frightened girl. She took a few steps back
and before she could think about dodging the soldier attacked his staff
making contact with her stomach pushing her over the edge and into the
mouth of the volcano. Sarah tried to yell, but was too shocked.
The heat from the lava below making her sweat. Somewhere down in
the billows of the volcano a small red light lit up and flew towards the
falling figure. As it approached the light grew brighter and engulfed
her. "It looks like I took care of that!" The soldier declared as
he dissaperead into a nearby shadow. Deep in the pool of lava a figure
lay face down. Slowly it's head peeked up over the lava that blocked
her vision. Sarah stood up and looked at what she now wore, the Rekka
yoroi. The new armor protected her from the heat of the lava she stood
in. It seemed the weapons were still missing from the armor, but
that didn't matter now. She might as well, find this wearer while
she was down there.
The soldier returned to the masters throne room,
a smug smile on his face, if you could acually see his face. He figured
the master would be pleased that he had suceeded, without any mistakes,
but he was wrong.
"What are you doing back here?" The master boomed.
"I defeted the girl. She fell into the volcano!"
The soldier replied suddenly shaken
"Just because she fell into what would normaly kill
a human, she is no longer a normal human. We do not yet know what
the capabilities of this new armor is!" The master yelled, red lighting
lighting up where his eyes would be, "Go, and do not return till you have
a body to prove that you ahve suceeded!"
"Yes master," The soldier whimpered as he dissapeared
yet again.
Sarah wondered around the inside of the large volcano
for a bit before she saw a glint of red out of the corner of her eye.
She turned and walked toward the light when she came upon a crystal coffin.
Inside she could see the black hair and possible patches of white of the
wearer of Rekka, on his forhead the virute of Benevolance glew brightly.
She looked down at his face, peacefull, the only word she could think of
to explain how he looked. She could only see half his face, and didn't
try to see the other side, because of what the ledgend says. She
looked all over the crystal coffin for anyways of opening the thing, but
couldn't find any sign of how he got into the thing or how she could get
him out. Sarah took a step back and looked down at the object before
her. There was no way she was going to drag the whole thing up to
the top, she doubted very much she could even if she wanted to.
"Tell, me, why should I even wake you up? Do you
want to fight again? Do I want to fight at all? what's this new armor going
to do to me?" Sarah asked as she sat down on a nearby rock, "Why couldn't
I of just lived my life as I was, I was happy! We were all happy!!
But I'm sure you were happy too, before you wore the armor. And now
you're scared, lost your family.. and anything else you held dear.
Maybe I could just kill you, so you won't have to feel the pain of this
armor anymore." Sarah stated looking down at the armor that covered her
arms.
"It is not as bad as you think." A voice responded.
Sarah looked up quickly to find the blue eyed, black haired boy in front
of her. No white was in his hair, no scares evident on his body.
"A..are you..?" Sarah asked looking down to where
the scared looking body still lay.
"Yes, that is me. But you don't understand,
what you said. It is not true. I look like I do here. What
you see there, is only the illusion you think you should see." The boy
stated.
"I don't understand."
"Don't try, you will, but not now. You must
free me. I can not die till I can free the world of the evil that
placed me here." The boy stated looking down at himself in the coffin.
"But the armor has caused you nothing but pain!"
Sarah exclaimed.
"That is where you are wrong. It was the armor
that brought me and my friends together." Sarah was unable to reply before
he disapeared. Unsure even more of what to do she sat on the rock
and watched the flowing lava around her. Far above her on the rim
of the volacano, the soldier stood looking down into the smoky depths.
Sarah stared at the armor the surounded her arm and it occured to her that
it did not burn like the ledgends had said, it appears that part of the
ledgend really was just that, a ledgend. But she still needed to
know how to get the wearer's body out of the crystal coffin. She
looked back over at him and at the red kanji that glew on her head, and
she looked inside herself at the kanji that was hidden there, honor.
She closed her eyes and saw the kids just standing there, a tear fell down
her cheek. They were happy, they loved the idea of the armors being
real, she didn't want to disapoint them. When she opened her eyes,
the kanji on his head was glowing brighter and the armor around her also
glew. Just as something was about to happen a spear landed just between
her and the coffin, looking up through the smoke she could just bearly
see the outline of the soldier. Without thinking she took one leap
and jumped out of the volcano, behind the soldier.
"So you do live." The soldier stated as he held
yet another staff in his hands, "But I will remedy that." The soldier attacked
and Sarah was able to avoid the point easily.
'How am I doing this?' She asked herself as she
dodged and blocked the attacks made by the soldier. Agravated the
soldier called on some of his buddies, and soon Sarah was surrounded by
husk soldiers. Frightened, Sarah begged for help that would not come,
but she was surprised when she heard his voice again.
"You can defete them." The voice of the wearer stated
in her head.
"I don't know how to fight!" Sarah exclaimed as
she ducked from more of the barrage of attacks.
"Just trust in the armor and it will protect you."
The voice stated again. Sarah was even more unsure, but she felt
she could trust the voice, and closed her eyes. Again she saw him
in her mind, his deep blue eyes almost a glow. Around him a faint
red aura glew and as the seconds passed it grew brighter and brighter till
the red was all she saw. When she opened her eyes all that was left
were the empty shells of the soldiers. Letting out a sigh of releife
she looked back down into the volcano, now she just had to get the boy
free. Before she could even think of anything the armor that surounded
her dissapered and shot down into the volcano. A second later the
light reamerged and faded out to reveial the waerere in subarmor like hers
but only red, and that was when she noticed she was now back in her own,
brown armor. Confused and tired, she picked him up and started back
down the volcano. Just where the trail started back up again, she
saw the horse that she ahd rode up. A bit couriuos as to how it go
tied to a tree she untied it, and hefted herself and the wearer onto the
animal and started down to the van. When they arrived two hours later,
the van was turned back around and had full tank of gas. Sarah folded
down the seats in the back and layed out some blankets to place the waerer
on, and headed for home.
It had been a few days since Sarah had left to retreave
the first wearer. Byakuen had kept his promice and had kept more
then a few husk soldiers away from the house, while he played with Jun
and Ami. Erika messed with the computer to try and learn all she
could from it. Making out maps and such for Sarah so she would have
an easier time finding the other wearers. She was still at the computer
when Jun and Ami ran into the house screaming.
"Jun, what's the matter?" Erika asked afraid more
husk soldiers had appered.
"She's here!!" Jun exclaimed as he jumped up and
down.
"Who's here?" Seth asked walking into the room.
"I don't know." Erika stated looking at Jun for
an answer.
"Hey, guys, Sarah's back!" Makota yelled from the
second floor as Mike about fell down the stairs.
"That's who's here." Jun stated laughing a bit.
Erika lept up from the table knocking over her chair as they all ran out
of the house to see the van parked, and Byakuen up on his haunches looking
in the back window. Sarah slid out of the driver seat, and looked
over at the kids. She didn't look exactly happy to see them, but
sad that everythign was acually happening. She was no longer in her
subarmor but the clothes she had left in. She walked to the back
of the van and pushed Byakuen off the door so she could open it.
Byakuen practicly crawed into the van to see his charge and wouldn't let
Sarah in to get him.
"Erika, could you please go get one of the extra
beds ready?" Sarah asked as she tried to pull the tiger out of the way
so she could get in to pick the wearer up. Finally after some pleading
the tiger moved and Sarah was able to pick him up. He was a bit heavier
then he was at first, but she wasn't waering the armor anymore. She
layed him on Byakuen who carried him into the house. Erika readied
the extra bed in Sarah's room, but Byakuen didn't even need to be told,
for that was the room he headed for. They put him in the bed and
and left him there to rest, Byakuen by his side.
"That's Rekka?" Mike asked as they all sat down
at the table.
"His name is Ryo, Sanada Ryo." Erika corrected,
"Rekka is the armors name."
"I wore Rekka then." Sarah stated almost in a whisper.
"You did???!!" Matt exclaimed.
"It was very powerful... but, it's not as the ledgend
says. It's not that hot, but it protected me from the heat of the
volcano." Sarah explained.
"Cool" Jun exclaimed his eyes wide.
"I'll leave tomarrow for the next wearer." Sarah
stated as she stood up.
"I figured it would be best to go for the wearer
of Suiko next." Erika stated as she pulled out one of her maps.
"You've been busy, it seems" Sarah stated as she
took the map, and layed it on the table.
"In the notes Nasuti explained that the acuall place
of rest for him is between the bases of two whirlpools, in Narutoo." Erika
explained.
"And since I was able to wear Rekka, more then likely
I'll be able to wear Suiko too." Sarah reasoned.
"Right, and that'll help you out tremendusly." Erika
pointed out.
"Right..." Sarah sighed, "I should get to bed. It'll
be a longer trip, so I need to leave early."
"Don't you think you should get some more rest?"
Seth asked looking at her a bit worried.
"I have a feeling, that none of us will be getting
much rest for a while." Sarah stated as she walked into the den and shut
the door behind her.
