Collected here are my absolute favorite stupid things I've actually heard reporters say about Space Exploration, and so without further ado...
- "The rocket was unstaffed" - CNN, Lyn Russell. OK, so saying "unmanned" is politically incorrect, as if that matters, but unstaffed??? Come on! Pretty soon we won't have astronauts and payload specialists, we'll just have "Rocket Staff Members"! I can see an interview now: "What? Oh no, I'm not an astronaut, I'm just an "Associate Staff Member" to the rocket.
- Referred to space shuttle astronauts as "throwing satelites overboard" - NPR. Give me a break! Placing a satellite in a precise orbit is hardly "throwing". I'm not sure which is more stupid -- that, or referring to the area outside the shuttle as "overboard".
This last one is not about space exploration, it's about a town who's city hall burned down, but it is sooo stupid I just had to include it!
- "At least for the time being, things will never be the same" - WRTV 6 News
