Mr. Thomas Ismay, son of the Vicar of Mirfield of this church, and student of Physic in the University of Edinburgh died in that city 17th May 1772. An Aet Suae 22

The Rev’d Jos Ismay BA was inducted January 28, 1739

This is to certify that the eleventh stall on the south sife of ye church next to the great door was set up and repaired with my consent by the church wardens John Hebblewait and Abraham Hemingway at their own expense as witnessed by my hand 24 October 1768. Jos Ismay Vicar

October 8th, 1767, Between 4 and 5 o’clock this morning there was the greatest flood in this Parish that has happened in this century or ever known in the memory of the oldest man now living. It swept away Corn, Bridges, Trees etc., and has done very considerable damage in several places adjourning the river. J. Ismay Vicar of Mirfield

February 10th, 1768, between 4 and 5 o’clock this morning there was agreater flood than that which happen on ye 8th October last. It was occassioned by ye sudden melting of the snow which fell the preceding day, and was 5 or 6 inches higher than the Michaelmas flood 1767. It has done considerable damage all the vale was entirely overflowed, lands covered with sand and rubbish, water banks broken down, and most of the bridges carried away by the rapidity of the torrent. Leyland Bridge over the river Calder in this parish was carried away by the violence of the torrent, October 8th, 1767, and being indicted at ye Quarter Sessions was rebuilt and repaired in 1768 at ye expense of the Wappentake of Agbrigg and Morley, pursuant to the Order made for that purpose by the Justice of the Peace at the General Quarter Sessions held in Pontefract April 11th 1768. Be it remembered that one pew containg six seats (being the third pew from the front on the North Side of the West Gallery in Mirfield Church) was sold and conveyed by Mr. Samuel Gill of Earthrop to Mr. Samuel Brook of Mount Pleasent in the Parish of Mirfield for Six pounds and six shillings this 5th day of December 1776.
