The 1861 Census for the whole of England, Wales & Scotland has been indexed by the Ancestry.com. Listed below are the extracted entries for all the Ismays for England & Wales. The Census was on the night of Sunday, April 7^th 1861

It is interesting to review this data on a larger scale as well as searching for our individual ancestors. For instance, Ismays were found in 11 out of 41 counties in England, 2 out of 29 in Scotland with no occurrences in Wales, Channel Isles, or the Isle of Man. As you will see there is a wide range of occupations from those that had independent means to those, who one can easily imagine, life was a constant struggle.
