Old  NEWS FLASHES Click here

Greetings Hooligans,

Welcome to the
NEWS FLASH page. This page will be updated on a weekly (sometimes more, sometimes less) basis telling you about interesting news and events going on in the world of VROOM and the motorcycle community. If you have any news, questions or comments, please email them to me. Now, on to the news....

OCT 12 2000
Funny how that little thing called life gets in the way of web up keep huh? The Season for the Vroom crew is winding down (finally) and some of us have taken our bikes off the road. The year has been full of ups and downs, that is for sure. The thing I am most excited about right now is the VIDEO of the vroom crew. Bart has spent countless hours recording and editing the footage, and we hope to have the finished product by the part on the 27 of Oct.. I will write a big year end deal soon, got to go to work now..chow all...Flash

I sometimes sit here and stare at the  computer screen for several minutes.  I wonder how many people actually take the time to read this stuff. <ponders> Well, lots to ramble about this week. First, site updates: I have added some sound files to some of the pages, so I encourage you to surf around and find them. Second: I have added some new pictures under the pictures section. Look for the rotating "NEW" logo. Special thanks to Colin and Bart for taking many of the pictures you see there. Third: The Vroom site is quickly running out of space. Over the next couple months, I will be moving the contents to ~CRASH~'s server, which will allow me to add tonnes more stuff. I do dread that task though. This site has taken up hundreds of hours to do. Don't get me wrong..I love it, but the transfer will take some time. Please be patient.

I guess I should get this out of the way now. I am selling my motorcycle. Yep. If you haven't seen the posting (on the front page) the 99 CBR F4 is for sale. Let's just say I have bigger bike dreams for the 2001 season. SO anyone who wants a f4, step forward and claim yer prize. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising, so please pass this along.

There was a huge meeting of bikes on Sat and Sunday this weekend. I attended the Sat ride but missed the Sunday one. I burnt my clutch away. Also, JP-on the R6 crashed. I wish him a speedy recovery. It seems that this old guy decided to pull a u turn in the road without a shoulder check. I realize that it is hard to think about getting another bike when you are busted up and laying on yer back but motorcyclist are true warriors. A special kind of person is attracted to the speed, freedom, and wonder of bikes and I hope JP doesn't dismiss bikes all together. However, whatever his choice, we stand behind it.

As for the Sunday ride..some 25 bikes showed up, NICE!! The season is coming to an end, so burn the tires off now and get all the riding in you can...
until next update

Sept 4 2000
I have decided to start posting the site updates here (New Flash). Updated members pages, SBW page and News Flash. Yesterday prooved to be very interesting. A rather casual day turned out to be a mini rally in itself. I get a call from ICE MAN, telling me that he is at the Moka House and that there are 2 riders from out of town who would like to go for a ride? "They looked us up online." He tells me. So I gather my lazy ass out of bed and ride down to the Moka House. It seems that "most" of the Vroom crew are there. The two gentleman, Russ and Troy, had ventured over from Vancouver and Seattle respectivly for the weekend. Needless to say, we went on a little ride and brought them up to the playground for some tricks. It was a pleasure to meet up with them and we hope you two will venture back soon for some more fun. Also. Colin (from Van) was over on his ZX9R and played with us as well.

SuperGirl has moved over to Vancouver and I miss her already. She is a wonderful addition to the VROOM CREW and one hell of a good rider. Come visit us soon babe!!

Remember, if you want to see something on the page, let us know!!

AUG 27 2000

I have decided to start adding to the update on a more regular basis. I am going to start to use the "NEWS FLASH" as a sort of journal for a day in the life of Flash so to speak. I figure that a lot more goes on in VROOM (and my life) than I actually write about. You have to remember that, in a group of 20 or so people, there are always stories to be told. Unfortunatly, since I am the web master and the guy who writes the "write ups", everything is of course from my perspective. I have always tried to be as unbiased as possible with regards to VROOM and will try to relate others adventures as I hear them.

The NEWS FLASH was an idea that I came up with in order to keep fellow members and VROOM visitors up to date on what is happening in "our" (read 'my' as well) lives. I won't sugar coat  the nastiness or ugliness that I may encounter. Nor will I overlook the wonderful adventures that lay ahead. Having said that, my topic for this write up is  about "IMAGE".

How many times do I have to say it before in sinks into peoples' heads that we are a group of people who share a love for sportbikes and in turn have become friends. Recently, I was asked to remove a new "member" (god, it sounds like we are some type of cult) from the page for a reason I cannot go into. Out of respect for the person, I did.  Where does anyone get off saying who one can hang with. Are we promoting a  life style which is offending anyone? Are we harming people because we like to ride bikes? The members of Vroom are comprised of government workers, law enforement personel, computer programmers, navy, private sector and other individuals. I guess the key here is the word indivduals. Let us be indivduals and we flurish. Try and make us conform to  "your" ideals and stiffle us. In my opinion, the reasons behind this whole ranting is utter nonesense. I am quite certain that the individuals in question (how ironic huh) don't have cogent argument to stand by. How sad.

Moving on to better things. Today, I went for a ride with JACK and Tex. We had a blast riding up near Duncan. We stopped in Cowichan to find a show and shine of hot rods and Harley's. It was great to see. WE met this guy named ROD, and ex cop from Toronto who was super nice. We traded stories for about a half hour, telling eachother how we love bikes etc. It always amazes me how neat most bikers are. This guy was real genuine and a pleasure to talk with.

Jack and I decided that we should make a video of all of our near misses. IT would be hilarious to watch. Let's just say ol' Flash got hung up today on his mirror and couldn't figure out how to remove his legs from over the front of his windshild. Jack and I had a good laugh about that.

There is an indivdual by the name of Kris (aka Whiplash) who lives in the Detroit area who came across our site and wanted to start his own Vroom club there. This guy has a huge heart and personifies what sportbike love is all about. I hope he succeeds on gettting together some great people in his area and look forward to meeting him in the future. Watch the VROOM SITE for an American chapter real soon, with Kris leading those American hooligans into some trouble (wink).

REMEMBER ABOUT MISTI'S GOING AWAY PARTY ON The 29th of AUG. Come on by to say good bye and enjoy great music, give a ways at the Boom Boom Room.

That's it..time for a ride.
hugz to all

AUG 25 2000

Ok,so by now you have read the update and seen the pictures of Sportbike west. All I need to say is wow. We had a great time and are already thinking about next year. I will be adding a new section to the site about "how to do" tricks. This will enable some of you to get pointers and tips from some by the crew on "how to impress your friends and make some enemies". Furthermore, I have been talking with a friend of mine and we may redo the site and make it look more professional (add flash technology and pull down menus). Let me know folks.....

Aug 9 2000

IT'S COMING!!! Sportbike West Baby! Prepare yourselves!!!! As you can imagine, everyone who is going to SBW this year is really stoked about the event. I think there will be around 30-40  bikes front the Victoria area heading up there this year. As it stands there are 16 Vroom members going. Kewl huh? I am trying to figure out if anyone reads the new Flash page? I have lots to say, but do ya want to hear it? Please email me (the_flash@bikeracer.com) with suggestions.

Derrick is doing much better and I wish him the fastest recovery.  IF you are intestested in getting something airbrushed on your bike, look no further than our very own IRONMAN. He does amazing work. Got my new plate for my bike. Just wave when you see me now....
we'll talk later

July 23 2000
After being hounded for several weeks about updating the damn page, here it is!  Yeah I know, I 've been real busy with something called "life". But enought excuses right. Onto bigger and brighter things. Lots of news to cover. Lets start with near misses and crashes. This year has seen its fair share of accidents, near misses, and bad times. Motorcycling is more popular than ever. With more bikes on the road, there are more accidents.  My only advice to offer is this: ride within your limits and DO NOT let your ego ride you. Nothing new there, but so many novice riders are unaware of this. I am shaken every time I hear about someone going down. We are all motorcyclist and should look out for one another. Why the hell do you think we wave at each other when riding? Its not just a wave, it stands for OUR LOVE FOR BIKES and that as bikers and human beings, we look out for one another. We should put everything else aside to help. So next time you see someone in trouble, be it a hogg rider, sportbike rider, crusier,  DP, or whatever, help out.

Our best wishes to Derrick, who is recovering from a nasty near miss and busted leg about a month ago. I am sure he'll get back on the horse, but please D, stay away from buying a Gixer 750. We don't want to loose you. Hope Mark is feeling better after being side swiped. Get well soon Mark buddy!

Special thanks to all of you signning the guest book. I would like to welcome Amber to the Vroom crew with her smoking Joes F3. More women rders are GREAT.  Nice 150 kph wheelie in front of the cop car Speed Demon. Even nicer was the FACT that he didn;t get a ticket!! Welcome back Andy, its good to have our KAW BOY back!

Jon (aka ICE MAN) finally got his new ride. A 98 CBR 900RR. Its great to have him on the road again.

Tee shirts anyone? VROOM logo stickers being  made as we speak. Who wants one? I've been busy ya know. Video footage is coming to the site in the next few weeks. Real hooligans at work. My love and hugs go out to the Battle family still. We all miss Mike,

Jack is "off the road" for a little while. But let me say this. Here is a guy who travels from USA to visit us almost every weekend. HE is just to risky for those stiff nuts in the the US, so they took away his license. But I have to say this guy is a barrel of laughs to be around. We are glad he is aprt of the VROOM family. Going to have a wild time at SBW huh Jack?
Anytime you need a ride Jack, My keys are yours!

Sportbike West is coming. Hate to say it but, we are really going to "enjoy" ourselves when we get there.

that's it...take care all..see ya next week

June 7th 2000

Updated the page tonight. I also thought long and hard about my friends. Sitting at the computer for a few hours gives you a lot of time to think. And I have done that.  We can't always see eye to eye. Each one of us has our own beliefs and moral structures.  Friends stick by you and forgive you when you are wrong. Good ol Flash has done somethings that have been down right wrong. But I want thank TEX for sticking by me. You know we see eye to eye and I am SURE we have some great times ahead. As for Super Girl, thanks for the talk and the adventure is not over. I promise. The rest of you, thanks for hearing me out.

As for motorcycle news, three things. First, there is a race in Portland on Aug 4-6. Gary Rothwell, the KING of motorcycle stunts, will  also put on a show there. Anyone interested on going? SBW is coming up, get you asses in gear. Third, we are going to put some movies on the web page of some stunts and stuff. Sound good?

Take care all

May 26 2000

Hey all. I decided to start a second page of News Flashes because it was geting rather long to scroll down the page to read older Flash updates. It seems that the crew has got to a point where it is too big to go on a single ride at noon on Saturdays. Many members, and other bikers in town I might add, head out at 7:30 am for a morning ride. The main reason for the NOON meeting is two fold. First, it allows those who cannot get up at that ungodly time to meet (some of us work late on Friday nights).  And secondly, it is the peak of the day, and there are lots of people and other bikers coming by (great time to meet more people). While it is true that the early morning rides are better because there is no traffic, the later afternoon rides allow us all to meet up. I guess there is a social aspect to all this.

Personally, I tend to go riding mid afternoon or early evening by myself to get the skills up to standard. That way, there is no one waiting for me or vice versa. Many members complain about the large groups going on rides. I have to agree, it is hard and sometimes dangerous in large groups (14 plus). I would suggest that we make a plan before we leave, ride the pace mellow, and if you want to really burn it up, go in smaller groups at different times (like you have been doing).

Finally, I leave off with this. We all share a common love for motorcycles. Let's not have anything interfere with that. I want to see VROOM expand and not destroyed from within....

Keep it wild
