Operation Food Search was established in 1981 to help the food shortages in the St. Louis area. Operation Food Search distributes food free of charge to help feed the poor and the hungry. This organization distributes more than 1 million pounds of perishable and non-perishable food and household items to 300 food pantries and soup kitchens who offer emergency hunger relief to nearly 100,000 poor people every single month. Nearly half of the 100,000 people are children.
Operation Food Search has consistently worked to address the problem of hunger for 25 years and continue doing it today. In 2006 alone, they collected and distributed 16.5 million pounds of food and household items. They conduct nutrition education classes every week for low income adults and children.
If you decide that you want to help Operation Food Search or have questions for them, call the Hunger Hotline at 314-726-5355. They will pick up the phone 24/7 and appreciate any donation, no matter what the size.
