In my opinion, Holden Caulfield is a person of faith because he tries to not live a phony life like so many of the people he encounters in the book by judging his actions and by trying to be a catcher in the rye for people.
Holden was going back to his hotel one night and the worker in the elevator asked him if he wanted some company tonight for ten dollars and Holden said yes. When the prostitute went to Holden?s room, he did not want to have sex with her but instead wanted to have a talk with her and by doing so he continued to live a life of chastity. Also by not having sex with the prostitute, he chose not to use a woman for his own sexual pleasure. I think that Holden Caulfield also tried to get the prostitute to stop being a prostitute and he thought of her just like a regular person because when he saw the dress that she was wearing he imagined her going to the store like a regular woman and buying dresses. Holden tried not to be a phony guy and talked bad about them. Holden mentioned a guy that got paid a lot of money to bury people?s bodies in the graveyard but then he said that all he did with those bodies was put them in a bag and throw them down the river and keep the money for burying the dead person.
Before Holden got on the train, he sat down and talked to two nuns who were collecting money for their parish. Holden found them interesting to talk to and decided to help out their cause by giving them a gracious amount of money. While Holden was on the train, he started talking to the mother of a kid at his school that was not well-liked. She looked so happy when they were talking about him that Holden decided to lie to her and tell her that her son was a really popular person in school so that way she would not be sad and instead be happy for her son.
Holden Caulfield also tried to act as a catcher in the rye for younger people by trying to keep them out of the life of adulthood and in childhood for as long as he could. Holden walked into the school and saw that someone wrote ?fuck you? on one of the chairs so he erased it. But, as he came across more ?fuck you? carvings in public areas, he found them harder and harder to erase and get rid of. While Holden was walking through the park one day, he saw two girls roller blading and since it was cold, he asked them if they wanted to go get some hot chocolate with him.
Holden Caulfield is a person of faith because he evaluates his actions throughout his life to try to not be a phony, he is a nice and generous person, and Holden tries to act as a catcher in the rye for kids younger than him to keep them out of the adult world.
