A report from Michael Moore about shooting the new Rage video...
"A few weeks ago, I was asked by Rage Against the Machine to direct their next music video, something I've never done. Their song is about the evils of our economic system and the era of greed in which we live. So, like, I had a few ideas...

On Wednesday we quickly set the band up on the steps where George Washington was first sworn in as President, on the corner of Wall and Broad Streets in lower Manhattan. Quite a large crowd came out of the brokerage houses and banks where the business of America is conducted on a daily basis. The police also came out. They ordered the makeshift concert to cease, but before we had a chance to stop, four officers jumped me and put me in one of those police locks like you see on that excellent and informative show, "COPS." One tried to break my arm, the other put a choke hold on my neck. In all my years of shooting in New York, I have never had this happen, and all I could think of was, well, I just hope it's a new plunger.

When the band and the crowd saw this, they went nuts. Hundreds of them jumped two police barricades and tore across the street to the front door of the New York Stock Exchange, ground zero of American Capitalism. It was a sight to behold. The police were so distracted with carting me away they couldn't catch up to the band - who, by this time, had made it inside the first set of double doors to the Exchange. At that moment, someone must have hit the riot button inside the Stock Exchange because suddenly these large steel gates came crashing down in front of the second set of double doors. Then all the gates of the Exchange came down. Clank! Clank! Clank! For the first time anyone could recall, the New York Stock Exchange went into lockdown - a full hour before its official closing time. The police left me and rushed over to break up the madness. But the band and their fans are faster than I was and escaped the clutches of the police.

You can catch the video on MTV in mid-February and me in court by late March."

Contest winner!
Congratulations go to Brian Steger, the winner of our recent contest. Brian wins a whole host of goodies, autographed by the band. Here's how excited Brian was; "Rage Against The Machine rocks, the prizes are sweet and one of a kind. Their music actually has a meaning too. The guitars just blow my mind too!"

Cops Boycott RAGE shows on 1999 Tour
Hundreds of off duty police officers protested outside The Centrum in Worchester, MA during RATM's Nov.30th show. Cops screamed: RATM support a cop killer and attempted several arrests. The protest outside didn't effect the crowd's response inside where the guys in RAGE performed another great show.

The cops came out again in Philadelphia (First Union Spectrum) on Dec.6th to express their opinions on RAGE and even threatened to go on a local affiliate major television network to dispute and defame RAGE. Once the cops found out that Zack and Tom would be present to debate them the officers backed down.

Police Boycott Rage
The National President of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP, which includes chapters of both retired and active-duty officers in every state of the union) has called a boycott against RATM and NBC, due to the groups controversial support for convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. NBC is included in the boycott because of the band's recent performance on Conan O'Brien where they played a stellar version of "Testify."

FOP Prez Gilbert G. Gallegos issues a statement which read, "This is a medicore band at best, who's real talent is not music, but radical politics. I guess when you lack musical talent, but are good at marketing an anti-everything image, you can still sell records and get on television. We will be flooding NBC with calls and e-mails expressing our vehement opposition to their decision. This is hurtful to police officers and their families. It further legimitizes the celebrity status of a vile murderer and NBC should know that."

Mumia's Freedom Journal and check out Zack's statement from the Mumia benefit show.

Rage Shoot "Guerrilla" Video
Rage Against the Machine shot the video for "Guerrilla Radio," the first single off their upcoming disc The Battle of Los Angeles last week in... where else... Los Angeles.

The clip was directed by the filmmaking team known as Honey. Honey member Nick Brooks was a co-winner of the 1998 Academy Award for Best Achievement In Visual Effects for his work on the Robin Williams stinker What Dreams May Come (we haven't seen it but apparently the visuals were the best part). Expect the clip to premiere on MTV any day now.

"Guerrilla Radio" also marks the first time Rage have crashed the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts (it recently debuted at No. 69). After a few, select club dates (10/27 at the Sports Palace Pavilion in Mexico City, 10/31 at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C., and November 5 at The El Rey Theatre in LA), Rage will kick off their headlining North American arena tour on November 19 in Oakland, California.
