Lancaster County, SC

Federal 1850 Census

Having done a certain amount of work on this census, I have decided to share it with the InterNet.

The census was started about 30 June and was completed about 10 November 1850 by K G Billings, Assistant Marhal (who did not count himself si I added him). The copy of the film I used and the counters' hadwriting left much to the interpretation. I have added certain data and changed some misspellings on the MicroFilmed Records. This is NOT an accurate transcription but the beginnings of a bit more useful tool for the person who does not have enough lines in the county to justify the cost of looking at the film.

If you would like to help improve this page, send me your data and the source for same.

I am looking for published sources or sources that might be a bit better than a GEDCOM your cousin sent you.

If you want to send me a GEDCOM, Family Tree or Family Origins file, GREAT. But this assumes that your file is sourced to where you got the data.

I reserve the right to ignore unsourced data. For those of you with thin skin (and you lnow who you are), don't send me your data. I am tired of people who want me to do things thier way. If you want the data a different way, transcribe the film and publish your own page.

Genealogy Without Documentation is Mythology

Also let me know whether you want your email and/or snail mail listed on the page.

Click here for the index and the details. By clicking on it, you accept all of my craziness,

To steal from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.

Why couldn't I have had one paper "pack rat" ancestor?
