"I'm here... in your room... on
a hot summer's day..." "Usagi! Wake up! You're supposed to be studying!" Everyone was at Mamoru's house with their books. Mamoru said he guessed they preferred studying here because of the air conditioning. "Oh, no, also because the tea is wonderful," said Rei charmingly. "Uhh, thanks," said a puzzled Mamoru. "Oops - too late!" thought Rei [Do you think Rei is still attracted to Mamoru?] |
Ami was examining Mamoru's book collection and was impressed by the high level of his math and physics books. But, there were also history books, English books and even cooking books. Mamoru admitted it was hard to decide what field to pursue because he was good at many things. Then he said the girls should get back to studying and work on English for a while. Usagi complained that English was her worst subject. Mamoru said he thought all of Usagi's subjects were her worst. |

Someone rang the doorbell, so Usagi
ran to answer it. It was a gray-haired European man with
a cane and fancy suit. The man spoke to Usagi in
English, "Good afternoon young lady." "Uh ha ha," stammered Usagi, "I am... eigo... no... no... chanto...". [She was trying to say 'I can't speak English'; 'eigo' is Japanese for 'English']. The man was confused at first, but
then spoke to her in Japanese, "Oh, I see! You can't
speak English." |
"Edwards!" Mamoru came out and greeted his guest. The man
replied in English,
"Hello Mamoru, nice to see you again." [Although he was supposed to be European,
the man spoke with a Japanese accent!]
Ami and the others peeked out from the adjoining room. "Hello, young ladies," said Edwards. The girls came forward and tried to greet Edwards in English. "Nice to meet you" said Minako (Mina had the best English!). The other girls looked embarrassed and whispered to Mako-chan that she had used the wrong phrase! |

Edwards said he had dropped by to
invite Mamoru to a party he was hosting for the college
students. He said that all the girls should come too. The
girls were very excited to be invited to an adult party.
After Edwards had left, Mamoru said that he was the wealthy British gentleman who owned a well-known manor on the outskirts of the city.
|
Edwards
was very interested in education and the future and
sometimes hosted parties for the foreign students who
were studying at top schools in Japan.
Rei said it would be great to go to a fancy European party and dance the waltz. Ami thought it would be interesting to talk with the foreign students.
|
Usagi was just overjoyed
to go to a party with Mamoru! "Of course," Mamoru
pointed out, "most of the guests will be
foreign students which means..." "...speaking English!" |

Usagi kept saying
"A party with Mamo-chan!
But in English!" and switching between happy and sad
faces. The other girls sighed and said Usagi wouldn't get
any more studying done today. |

The professor phoned Eudial and said that he was interested in the Waltz. He said the 1,2,3 beat of the Waltz stood for intelligence, knowledge and fighting spirit, and was therefore a good symbol for their Death Busters organization. He had a record called "Our wish for the future" and said that Eudial should find a target with a pure heart for the waltz as well as good wishes for the future. Eudial's computer brought up some data on Edwards. | The professor started playing his record on an old-fashioned phonograph. Eudial complained that the violent music didn't sound like a waltz at all. The professor put the phonograph into his daimon-making machine. Some pink liquid and a white daimon egg flowed into the machine and there was a bright flash. The machine produced a box with a black star on the side. Eudial loaded the box into her car, then left to seek out her new target. |
