The Cascade Cowgirls
Rodeo Flag Team

Yakima, Washington

The Cascade Cowgirls have a core of 8 riders who carry the sponsor's flags while doing a short, fast drill to music. They perform in the opening ceremonies of various rodeos around the Northwest each season, and also ride in local parades. They make over 30 appearances in a season. They are not a "drill team," although they do perform a drill. They always wear red, white & blue stars & stripes uniforms.

They have performed in the following local rodeos:
The 2001 Yakima Sundome Pro-Rodeo, the 2002 Silver Spur Rodeo in the Yakima Sundome, Toppenish Pow Wow Rodeo on the 4th of July weekend every year, the Central Washington State Fair Rodeo (Yakima) in September of every year, The Ellensburg Rodeo on Labor Day every year, the Wiley City Rodeo in May every year, the Longhorn Saturday Nite Rodeos in June, July & August, the Bickleton-Cleveland Rodeo in June, Gromore Rodeos, the White Swan Rodeo, the Pendleton Wild Horse Rodeo, the Rough Riders Rodeo, & the Rockin' Rodeos.

They have 10 to 15 members most of the time, since it takes a little time & practice to be able to ride in a rodeo performance. Substitutes are always needed, and can fill in for the 8 core riders quite often. The new riders start by coming to the practices and riding in parades until they & their horses are comfortable with the whole routine. Nobody can just "join," until they and their horses have earned their spot in the lineup.
