CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
BOBBIE’S ROOM, GENERAL HOSPITAL:
Carly(enters to find Stefan sitting at Bobbie’s bedside)Mr. Cassadine, would you mind leaving me alone with my mother for a few moments.
Stefan: You seem much calmer than you were earlier.
Carly: My husband has that effect on me. I went down and had the tests done and we’ll know soon if I have to decide to give you one of my kidneys or not. Now, if you wouldn’t mind I need to be alone with my mother for a few moments.
Stefan: Of course. As you wish, Caroline. Please let me know when she awakens. I also wish to have a few words with her.(with that he left).
Carly(walked over to the side of Bobbie’s bed and glared down at her)I’ve got enough problems on my hands at the moment just trying to deal with Sonny and his messed-up head, I didn’t need you dumping this mess in my lap, as well. God, you never gave me one clue my father was living in the same town with me. How could you do that!
Bobbie(eyes begin to flutter and she opens her eyes)Carly? (she looks around dazed)Where am I? What happened?
Carly: Apparently, someone tried to kill you. A feeling I’m not too far from feeling towards you myself at the moment.
Bobbie(suddenly notices the cold and angry way Carly is regarding her in)Carly, why are you looking at me like I’m something that slithered out from a rock?
Carly: Aren’t you?
Bobbie: Carly, what’s wrong with you?
Carly: Maybe if I mention a name you can figure it out. Stefan Cassadine.
Bobbie: He told you?
Carly: He told me everything. Mother, how could you?
Bobbie: I had no choice. It was the only way I could think of to get Stefan to drop the charges against Roy.
Carly: Excuse me?
Bobbie: I knew Stefan needed a kidney and I thought if I...
Carly(exploded)You thought if you offered him one of my kidneys he’d let your boyfriend out of jail? My god, what kind of woman are you? You were going to harvest one of my kidneys to get a get out of jail free card.
Bobbie(realized Carly hadn’t known about that)You said Stefan told you everything.
Carly: He left that part of it out. What kind of woman are you? A mother is supposed to care and protect her child, not offer her vital organs up to the highest bidder.
Bobbie: I had no choice, Carly. If I hadn’t left Roy all those years ago dying and bleeding in front of the Port Charles Hotel, he wouldn’t have spent the last 20 years in prison. I had to do something to get him out of jail.
Carly: So you thought to offer me up as sacrificial lamb for your boyfriend. Thank you so very much, Mother. It’s so nice to know how very much I mean to you. Well, I’m afraid to disappoint you, Bobbie, but you’re going to have to go out and find yourself another kidney to barter to Stefan Cassadine for your boyfriend‘s freedom. Mine is off the auction block.(with that she stormed out of the room. Outside she came face-to-face with Stefan)Mr. Cassadine, I don’t know what kind of deal you and my mother struck, but she promised you something I won’t deliver. Even if those tests I took say I’m a compatible donor for you, I’m not going to give you my kidney. I’m keeping both my kidneys. You’ll have to go looking for another hooker you slept with who had a child with you to give you a kidney. (then she rushed over to Sonny and wrapped her arms around him.)Sonny, get me out of here.
Sonny: (cups her face in his palms and makes her look at him)What happened in there?
Carly: I don’t want to talk about it. I just want for us to go home and for you to make love to me and to make me forget there was every a time I wanted to know who my real parents were. Let’s just go home and make love and forget about everything except being together and making love with each other.
Sonny: If that’s what you want.
Carly; (closed her eyes and laid her head down on his chest)That’s exactly what I want. For the next twenty-four hours I don’t want either of us to think about anything. I don’t want to think about the baby. I don’t want worry about you thinking if you love the baby she’s going to die. I don’t want to think about what my mother did. And I don’t want to think about how incredibly selfish I’m being refusing to give my father one of my kidneys. I just want to feel your body wrapped around mine. (she lifted her head off his shoulder and looked up at him suddenly)In fact, I have an even better idea that that. Sonny, let’s go on our honeymoon. The reservations are still made, aren’t they?
Sonny: Yeah, everything is still arranged.
Carly: Good, then there’s no reason we shouldn’t go, is there?
Sonny: No, I suppose not. We’ve missed about a day or so. The English manor house I leased has been paid for the entire week.
Carly: Good, then there’s nothing to prevent us from going. Let’s just go on our honeymoon and leave all our troubles behind. (she added)We were going to pretend to be Lord Michael and Lady Caroline on our honeymoon. I think now is the perfect time for us to pretend for a little while were anyone but you and me.
Sonny(smiled)You’re right, let’s do it. When can head straight to the airport from here. We don’t even need to pack. A whole wardrobe is waiting for us at the manor house.
Carly(smiled the first real smile she had since their disaster of a wedding night)Then what are we waiting for. Let’s blow this pop stand.
Sonny: (pushed the elevator call button)We’re outta here.(by the time they elevator arrived they were laughing like a couple of carefree children leaving their troubles behind for the moment.)
Stefan(watched the elevator doors closed behind Sonny and Carly as they began to kiss, then he headed into Bobbie’s room)All right, Barbara, you want to tell me just what happened in here?
