CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

OUTSIDE THE BALLROOM, THE NURSES BALL:

Stefan(looking at his watch impatiently)What is taking that hat-check girl so long to find our coats.

Bobbie: Relax, Stefan, it’s not like we’ve got any place to get to in a hurry. So just where are we going to spend the rest of our evening together. Why did you even bid on me, anyway?

Emily(comes up to them before Stefan can answer)Mr. Cassadine, could I speak to you for a moment.

Bobbie: If this is something private, I could leave.

Stefan(grabs her by the arm)Oh, no you don’t, Barbara. I paid for you for the evening and you’re not getting away that easily. (he turns to Emily)Ms. Quartermaine, I’m aware you know that you’re a Cassadine. I’m sorry my mother dragged you into this matter for whatever perverse reasons she had.

Emily: Your mother was right about one thing. If it’s true that you’re my uncle, then I could save your life. What kind of person would I be if I knew I could do something to help you and I didn’t do anything about it.

Stefan(notices the look of guilt that comes over Bobbie’s face at what Emily said)So, Ms. Quartermaine, just what are you saying.

Emily: I know Alexis isn’t your sister and can’t give you her kidney, but if it’s true that I’m your niece, than you can have my kidney. I made arrangements with Tony Jones and I’m going to go in and have myself tested, tomorrow.

Stefan: Thank you. (she nods and with that she walks away from them)

Bobbie: That’s a very generous offer for Emily to make. She barely knows you.

Stefan: Why do you feel so guilty about what she said.

Bobbie: Stefan, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Stefan: Fine, play it that way, Barbara, if you insist. But I’m convinced even more now than before that you’re hiding something from me and it has something to do with my condition. Know this, I will find out what it is.

Bobbie: So where do you intend to take me to spend the rest of our night.

Stefan: Back to Wyndemere, of course, that is if you have no objections. (something in the tone of his voice and the way he was looking at her told Bobbie just what he had in mind when they got to Wyndemere. And he knew she knew it. He was giving her a choice. If Bobbie objected to going back to Wyndemere with him, then he would take her out to dinner, but if she agreed than they would spend the rest of the night together in his bed)

Bobbie: I’ll go and call the sitter and tell her I won’t be home, tonight. After all, you did pay for me for the night, didn’t you?

Stefan(smirked)Indeed I did.(he watched her as she walked off to make the phone call. He couldn’t trust her as far as he could throw her, and Bobbie could say the exact same thing about him. They were enemies who would gladly stab each other in the back if given half a chance. In fact, he suspected that was exactly what Bobbie was doing to him at the moment. She was a Spencer and he was a Casadine, after all. It was their nature. But they could both give each other what they both needed tonight. He looked forward to the evening ahead with anticipation. There was always an extra edge to the sex when it was with an enemy.)

Emily(was heading back into the ballroom when she bumped into a very upset Robin)Robin, what are you doing here? What’s wrong? Why are you so upset?

Robin: I just saw Sonny with Carly in there. It was disgusting. They were all over each other. They were practically having sex with each other as they were dancing. Tell me I’m wrong in what I’m thinking. Tell me they’re not lovers.

Emily: I’m sorry, Robin, it’s true.

Robin: Then they’re together? How could Sonny be so stupid to get involved with her. He knows what she is. Maybe he’s just doing it to save Jason from her.

Emily: Robin, Jason left town a long time ago. Sonny is with Carly because he wants to be with her. Robin, Sonny and Carly are getting married next week.

Robin; What! He’s going to marry her! What’s wrong with him! Well, maybe it’s not too late. Maybe I came back just in time to save him from her.

Emily: What are you planning to do?

Robin: Emily, I need your help. I need you to help me get Sonny away from Carly so I can talk some sense into him. Will you help me?
