CHAPTER TWO

EMERGENCY ROOM, GENERAL HOSPITAL:

Carly(rushes into the emergency room with Carly and Taggart close on her heels. She goes up to Amy)I was told Sonny was brought in here. Do you know how he is.

Bobbie: What about Roy? Is he all right? (Roy comes out from one of the examining rooms and Bobbie rushes into his arms)Thank God, you’re all right. I don’t know what I’d do if something had happened to you.

Carly: Where’s Sonny. Is he all right?

Roy: The doctor’s are examining him now, but they think it was just a flesh wound. They talked about moving him up to a private room as soon as they finish stitching him up.

Bobbie: Roy, what happened?

Roy: Larken pulled a fast one on us. He got the drop on us and he was about to shoot me, when Sonny jumped in front of me and took the bullet for me.

Carly:(bitterly)Well, at least he didn’t take one for The Banana. I guess I should be grateful for small favors.

Roy: Excuse me?

Carly: So did you catch Larken. Is this thing finally over?

Roy: Larken’s in jail as we speak.

Carly: Good. Then you shouldn’t need to drag Sonny into anymore of your troubles.

Bobbie: Carly!

Carly:(ignores Bobbie completely and focuses on Roy)Sonny has a family that needs and depends on him. Next time you or your skanky daughter get into trouble, you go to Luke for help. Do I make myself clear. (with that she turns on her heels and walks in the examining room where Sonny is)

Bobbie: Roy, I’m sorry. Carly had no business talking to you like that.

Roy(slings an arm around Bobbie)It’s all right, Bobbie. She’s just upset. Let’s go find Hannah. She’s some where around here.

TONY’S OFFICE, GENERAL HOSPITAL:

Stefan(as he finishes getting dressed)So, do you have any idea what, if anything, might be wrong with me.

Tony: Mr. Cassadine, the tests we just took haven’t even been sent down to the lab, yet.

Stefan: But you must have some suspicions of what might be wrong with me.

Tony: I’d prefer not to say.

Stefan: I’d prefer that you did. Out with it, Dr. Jones. I’d like to prepare myself for what I might be facing. Could I be looking at cancer, here? I’m always hearing about men and prostate cancer.

Tony: It’s in the wrong area for it to be that. In the area the pain your experiencing it could only be one thing. Your kidneys.

Stefan: My kidney’s! That’s the last thing I was expecting to hear.

Tony: Mr. Cassadine, have you recently taken an injury to your back. In particular, the left side of your lower-back. Could someone have hit you in that area during a fight or something?

Stefan: Dr. Jones, what do I look like? That barbarian Luke Spencer. I’ll have you know that I don’t partake in barroom brawls like people of his ilk do. I find it beneath my station in life to even enter a bar.

Tony: Well, do you ever remember sustaining any kind of blow to your back?

Stefan(thinks about it for a moment)As a matter of fact I do, but that was years ago. It happened when my brother Stavros and I were children. We were out sailing on the Aegean Sea when he rammed the boom of the boat into my back. He claimed it was an accident, but Alexis was there and said he did it on purpose. The end result was I got knocked overboard and I would have drowned if Alexis hadn’t jumped in after me and saved my life. Are you saying my current problem could be caused by something my brother did to me when we were children? (Stefan suddenly laughed)If this turns out to be true, Stavros will be down in hell laughing his head off that even from the grave he’s still causing me trouble.

Tony: We won’t know anything for sure until the test results come back.

Stefan: Call me as soon as they do.(then he exited Tony’s office)

OUTSIDE SONNY’S ROOM, GENERAL HOSPITAL:

Roy(grabs her arm to stop her from entering)You don’t want to go in there.

Hannah: Of course I do. Dad, Sonny saved my life. It proves he still loves me.

Roy: Hannah, that’s not why Sonny helped me to save you. He was afraid you’d get the wrong idea if he helped me save your life. Hannah, Sonny doesn’t love you. If you go inside there you’re just going to end up making a fool out of yourself.

Hannah: No, you’re wrong. This proves Sonny loves me. You were wrong about Sonny and you’re wrong about how he feels about me.

Roy: Hannah, Carly’s in there with Sonny.

Hanah: So? It’s time that tramp got the message that now she doesn’t have Sonny’s baby anymore, it’s over between them and I’m just the person to deliver it. It’s long past time she moved out of Sonny’s penthouse. (she breaks free of Roy’s hold and begins to open the door to Sonny[s room)

INSIDE SONNY’S HOSPITAL ROOM:

Carly(is sitting by his bed when Sonny wakes up)So why’d you do it, Sonny?

Sonny(groggy from the pain medication they gave him)Do what?

Carly: Why did you risk your life to save that FBI Whore. Please don’t tell me you want that tramp back now that the baby is gone.

Sonny: Of course not.

Carly: Then why did you risk your life to save hers. Are you still in love with her even after everything she did to you? Do you want her back?

Sonny: What are you nuts? No, I don’t want her back. I never really even loved her in the first place, so why on earth would I want her back.

Carly: Since when? Last I heard you were so in love with her if she’d been honest with you you would have given her another chance.

Sonny: That’s before I realized the truth about my relationship with her, if that’s what you could even call it.

Carly: And just what is the truth.

Sonny: If I had really been in love with her, I would have never had sex with you that night. And contrary to Hannah’s belief, I didn’t sleep with you because of her. I did it because you were right. I’d wanted you from the moment I first laid eyes on you and the first chance I got to take you, I did. Does that make you happy? Do you want to crow I told you so? And after I’d had you, I had no desire to ever touch Hannah Scott, again. Satisfied.

Carly: Not entirely. So, that’s when you realized you never really loved her.

Sonny: No, that’s when I realized I didn’t want her anymore. It wasn’t until we started living together that I realized that I’d never really loved her. Before we lost the baby, we were starting to build something real between us. That’s what made me realize I’d only convinced myself that I was in love with her when, in fact, I never really was. When I met Hannah I was in a bad spot. I was blaming myself for Brenda’s death. If I had married her like we’d planned and taken her away with me, she would have never been in that car with her crazy mother. Then before my eyes appeared this Brenda clone who also resembled Lily a bit. Until the day I die, I will always feel guilty for what happened to Lily. So, I tried to make-up for all the mistakes I made with Brenda and Lily with her. But the whole relationship was a fake. By trying to turn Hannah into some hybrid of Brenda and Lily in my mind, I ended up becoming someone I didn’t even recognize. In case you haven’t realized it by now, I’m not the most Stable Mabel on the block.

Carly: I’ve noticed.

OUTSIDE SONNY’S HOSPITAL ROOM:

Hannah(collapses in Roy’s arms weeping)He doesn’t love me. He never loved me.

Roy(patting her back)I’m sorry, baby. I tried to warn you. Come on, let me take you home.(he leads his weeping daughter away from the room)

INSIDE SONNY’S HOSPITAL ROOM:

Carly: You still haven’t explained to me why you risked your life to save hers.

Sonny: I didn’t do it for her. I did it for Roy. I know what it’s like to lose a child and I didn’t want Roy to go through that if I could prevent it.

Carly: So you preferred that Michael and I lose you, instead. Sonny, you made me a promise. You said you, me and Michael would be a family and that you would let me know if you were ever going to risk your life. You broke your promise to us.

Sonny: I wasn’t aware you still wanted the three of us to be a family, anymore.

Carly: What makes you say that.

Sonny: I heard what you said to Michael. It was just the two of you now. You made it more than crystal clear to me that now the baby’s gone you have no desire for the three of us to be a family.
