Welcome to the Carleton Model Railway Waterville's "Buckingham Quality Meats" is the railway's single largest customer. |
The Carleton Railway is a freelanced HO scale double-deck model railway based on railway operations "as they could have been" in Carleton County, New Brunswick, in the mid-1960's. The model railway is actually located in the basement of our home in Saint John, NB. The main line is about 260' long, and the layout has 100+ turnouts. Construction is currently underway on the Northampton Subdivision--a short branchline. The main focus of the railway is proto-typical operations, using car cards and waybills. Agricultural commodities dominate on the railroad, with plenty of stock cars, reefers, and "clean lading only" box cars. There are also a number of manufacturing and service industries along the line. The unmodelled section of the railway that runs from Montreal, through the State of Maine, and into western New Brunwsick at Avondale is the "International Division." The modelled section from Avondale (including Waterville, Rosedale, Wakefield, Pembroke, South Newbridge, Clarkville, Nortondale, Hawkins Corner, and Millville is the Avondale Subdivision. The Newbridge Subdivision is a short branch line that runs from South Newbridge to East Newbridge. The Northampton subdivision will run from South Newbridge to Northampton. The railway headquarters, coach yard, main classification yard, and locomotive servicing facilities are located in Avondale. Passenger service connects the Carleton County/North York area to both Montreal and Boston. The Carleton Railway inter-changes with the CNR (Centreville Subd.) at Avondale, the CPR (Gibson Subd.) at Millville, and (off layout) the BAR at Montecello Maine. I am glad to welcome guests. Email me if you are interested in being part of an operating session, or if you'd like a tour of the layout. |
