     Summary

I have sixteen years of experience in the installation, repair, troubleshooting, and upgrade of PC hardware and software. I have fourteen years of experience as a LAN Administrator with Novell NetWare (ten years with NDS), ten years with Microsoft Windows NT/2000 (six years with Active Directory), and a lot of exposure to UNIX as well. I have administered; Lotus cc: Mail, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Mail, and Exchange mail servers. I have a good working knowledge of networking protocols and standards, and experience troubleshooting servers (both hardware and software), connection, and application problems. I am experienced and proficient with the DOS, Macintosh 7/8/X, OS/2, and Windows 3x/9x/NT/2000/ME/XP, desktop operating systems. I have used backup software packages, such as, Arcserve, BackupExec, Legato, and Mountain, as well as the built in packages that come with NetWare (Sbackup, Sbcon), and Microsoft (Windows Backup), to backup and restore files. I have installed, troubleshot and repaired a variety of software packages, including; MS-Office, Lotus Suite, Netscape, MS-Internet Explorer, MS-Outlook, MS-Exchange, Lotus Notes, Lotus cc: Mail, and TCP/IP software for connecting to mainframes as well as the Internet. I’ve been responsible for the installation, administration, maintenance and repair of servers, firewalls, proxy servers, IIS, DNS, WINS, and DHCP servers. I have installed all of the above software, and others, in some cases numerous times, and am quite comfortable upgrading/migrating software from one version to another.

 

     Employment

Mar., 2004 - Present   Insight - Stow, MA       I work for Insight as an On Site Service Engineer at Bose Corporation. I’m responsible for the setup and installation of new computer equipment and peripherals as well as the repair of older computer equipment (HP, IBM, Dell, and Lenovo laptops and desktops), and computer peripherals (HP, Lexmark printers, etc) at the customer’s location.

Jan., 2001 – Mar, 2004    Contract Jobs – MA and NH      I've worked a number of contract and independent jobs troubleshooting PC and Macintosh computers (hardware and software), setting up home LANs, and connecting equipment to the Internet via; broadband, DSL, or modem connections. And for companies, doing OS, network server OS/application upgrades, equipment and hardware setups, and troubleshooting/repair, as well as relocating equipment.

Mar., 2000 – June, 2000     Robert Half International – Lexington, MA      I contracted to work as a LAN Administrator/PC Technician for Worcester Controls Corporation in Marlborough. Here I helped support a NetWare 4.11 (with NDS), and a WindowsNT 4.0 Server, as well as supporting about 60 users with their local software and hardware. The user's software included the Microsoft Office97 suite, Lotus ccMail, Lotus Notes, and several company proprietary software packages.

Aug., 1999 - Jan., 2000     The Computer Merchant, Ltd. - Norwell, MA      I contracted to work as a LAN Administrator/PC Technician for Inacom (a service company, TCML is a contract agency), at the Trammell Crow Company in Boston. Initially, I supported a NetWare 3.12 server, two WindowsNT 4.0 Servers (running Exchange 5, and other applications), and a Winframe server, at two sites in Boston and Cambridge. I also supported 140 users running the Windows 3.11, Windows95, Windows98, and WindowsNT 4.0 Workstation, OSs as well as the applications they run. The applications included: Microsoft Office97 suite, Microsoft Outlook98, and a variety of real estate industry-specific applications. When the company consolidated three offices into one at a new site in Boston, I helped with the migration of servers and workstations to an all WindowsNT 4.0 Enterprise Server and WindowsNT 4.0 Workstation network, and continued to support users and do network administration activities.

June, 1998 - Aug., 1999    TransCapacity L.P. - West Peabody, MA     I was employed as a LAN Administrator/PC Technician in the Operations department. Here I supported 6 NetWare 4.x file servers (running under NDS), and about 60 PCs running WindowsNT 3.51 and 4.0, Server and Workstation, as well as Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows95/98 workstations, all running on an Ethernet network. I also maintained the company firewalls, DNS Servers, routers, switches and hubs. As well as network administration, I supported end users with computer hardware/software problems. Supported software packages include: MS-Office, MS-Mail, TCP/IP applications (Netscape, and other company-specific applications). I was laid off due to a lack of business.

June, 1995 - Mar., 1998    Electronic Data Systems - Boston, MA     I was employed as a LAN Administrator in the Systems Administration department. As part of a team, I helped support 75 file servers throughout Massachusetts. They were a mixture of NetWare 3.12/4.1/4.11 (running under NDS), WindowsNT Server 3.5.1/4.0 server NOSs, running on an Ethernet network. As well as network administration, I supported end users with computer hardware/software problems. Here I supported the DOS, OS/2, Macintosh, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows95, and WindowsNT 4.0 Workstation operating systems, as well as software packages such as MS-Office, Lotus Notes, TCP/IP applications (Netscape and main frame access applications).

Oct., 1994 - June, 1995    Alternative Resources Corporation - Boston, MA      I contracted as a Temp PC Technician and was assigned to work at EDS (Electronic Data Systems) in Woburn. The job entailed setting up PCs, adding options, installing software, etc., then delivering them to customers. Also, I aided in the cross training of some of EDS's personnel in the repair of PCs. After eight months with Alternative Resources Corporation, I was offered a full time position with Electronic Data Systems.

Oct., 1991 - Sept., 1994    Bachman Information Systems - Burlington, MA      Before being laid off, due to a major restructuring of the company, I was employed as a Senior PC Technician. The job entailed the repair of the company's computer hardware and peripherals. The hardware included: IBM PS/2 (MCA style), Compaq and Dell (ISA and EISA style), PCs. Most of the PCs were high end Pentiums, 486DXs, 386DXs and XTs (used as Print Servers). I maintained three (250 node) File Servers, all running Novell NetWare 3.11, on an IBM Token Ring network, and regularly backed up the drives to tape. I was responsible for helping end users with problems encountered with DOS, Windows, (and Windows applications), as well as OS/2 versions 1.3EE, 2.0, and 2.1. I initiated a program of upgrading the company's older PCs through the use of Overdrive CPUs for the 486s, and 486 upgrades for the 386s, as well as larger hard drives and additional RAM. From October 1993 through the layoff, I was the company's Purchasing Agent and Expediter of computer hardware and software. I was also responsible for the recommendation and evaluation of electronic equipment.

Aug., 1991 - Sept., 1991    The Systems Group - Wakefield, MA     I contracted as a Temp PC Technician, and was assigned to work at Bachman Information Systems, where after several months, I was asked to join Bachman as a full time employee.

Jan., 1989 - April, 1991    Bedford Computer Systems - North Billerica, MA      Before being laid off do to a lack of business, I was employed as a Customer Service / Electronic Technician. I serviced most brands of PCs, Printers, Monitors, and Terminals to either the board or component levels (dependent upon its cost effectiveness); both at the customer site and in the company's repair depot. I can read schematics, and have experience with test equipment such as: Oscilloscopes, Multi/Digital Voltage Meters and Logic Probes.
