As every Tyranid player knows, Games Workshop shortchanged the Tyranid army. Every other Warhammer 40,000 Army has a plastic kit of a tank and/or transport vehicle. Unless you count the cool but huge and expensive Harridan from Forgeworld or their bio-titans (which changed from cool and spider-like in epic scale to just huge gaunts). The answer for you and for anyone else who wants a biomechanical vehicle is right here. This is one of several bio-tanks from the Kryomek range, the others include troop transport and artillery but this is the offensive tank from the line. The hull is about 8cm long and fully assembled it's about 9 and 1/2 cm including antennae. Resin with metal guns and antennae, the casting is crisp and clean, though the top half of the body does overlap the bottom half and takes a little care lining up. |
Kryomek Resin Grav Bio Tank Review |
This is soooo cool looking! It has nothing to do with War of the Worlds but no one said we’d only review WOTW stuff. I particularly like the way it appears to have been repaired with goopy patches at a couple of points such as one of the compound eyes. The huge eyes are superbly sculpted. I can’t help but think that the sculptor of this would do a really fine job of Jeff Wayne’s tripod, especially when looking at the Storm Striders from the human forces of the Kryomek range. I also give this a 4 |

With a little care I was able to pin the turret in such a way that it swivels easily. Care must also be taken with the antennae as these can bend, leaving them off though would be a sin as they not only look cool in themselves they also are an important part of the sculptures composition. The tank is designed around a hexagonal plan emphasising the hive insect feel to the piece. The detail panels and a couple of tubes however have asymmetrical arrangement within the symmetrical mass of organic tubes which in turn balances the disproportionate size of one of the turret guns over the other. The vehicle mixes organic and mechanical components in a way that paints up easily, the whole thing suspended on a stand designed to look like a blast of steam. |
Fans of H.R. Giger, Starcraft, and WH40k’s Tyranids can really treat themselves with this small compact but chunky-looking biomechanical piece of art. Those who play the Kryomek game really have no excuse not to buy one, the nastiest thing short of a swarmaster that the Kryomek (the aliens for which the game is named) can field, its a viscious piece of work in rules terms carrying two of the nastiest weapons in the game. It really fits in well with the rest of the range and makes a great centerpiece for a bug army. It will also draw some of the fire from your warmasters and warriors. I give this a 4. |
