VANCOUVER, January 2009. It is with regret that we have had to cancel the Annual Vancouver Springtime Dinner. There was not a date available on which enough members could attend.
Michael Atterton is looking at a possible October event.

Many of our Alumni have made their mark in all fields of endeavour.
Those individuals identified here are only a sampling of these.
There are many "unsung heroes" who have dedicated themselves to their careers and life plans and accomplished "quiet" successes and goals - whether they have worked in the fields of teaching, scholasticism, the military, religion, the arts, medicine, law, accountancy, and so many other fields where public knowledge of their accomplishments is not a commonplace of recognition.

Michael Ondaatje
In 2007 Michael Ondaatje matched Hugh MacLennan's record, by winning a fifth Governor General's Literary Award. Divisadero is a lyrical and painful family story set partly in 1970s northern California. Ondaatje's signature fragmented narrative travels back in time to the early 20th century to show a parallel family tragedy in rural France.
Recently Michael was in Sechelt, British Columbia for the Sunshine Coast Writers' Festival, where he gave delightful reading from Divisadero and some of his earlier works.
Michael was at Dulwich from 1954-1962, after which he immigrated to Canada, and became a Canadian citizen in 1965. He attended the University of Toronto (BA) and Queen's (MA). In 1971 Ondaatje began teaching at York University. He received the Order of Canada in 1988.
