Songs through the Ages

From time to time (when the webmaster overcomes his beach-side inertia)
the lyrics to a Mohican song will be posted here.
They were provided by Robert Solomon, along with other memorabilia
which take too long to copy by hand and are not high enough
quality to scan. If you want a photocopy, email me your request
and I'll send you one. (Be sure to include your address!)

ALMA MATER

(To the tune of NYU's alma mater, NOT "Love Me Tender", which came later!)

When the evening shadows fall
O'er our campus dear,
Voices raised in happy song
Echo our good cheer.

Mohican, Mohican, love we have for you.
We will ever sing thy praise,
To thee we'll e'er be true.

WELCOME SONG

We welcome you to Mohican,
We're mighty glad you're here.
We'll st the air reverberating
With a mighty cheer.
We'll sing you in,
We'll sing you out,
To you we'll raise a mighty shout(*)
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here
And you're welcome to Mohican!

(*) Often sung "We'll fill your mouth with sauerkraut"
but that's unofficial.

CRASHING THROUGH
(What year was this?
I believe it was originally a Gold song.
And what tune is it from?)

Crashing through, hail our team
Raise the dust, banners gleam
For the foe to see
That the glory of our team will ever be.

Trumpets blare, clarions call,
We heed to the call, to the call:
Thunder will break,
The earth will quake,
Mohican marching on to victory!

Victory!
Hail our team!
Victory!
Hail our team!
Victory! Victory! Victory!
(reprise)

ROBIN HOOD MARCHING SONG
(Green, 1947)
(To the tune of Harvard's "With the Crimson
in Triumph Flashing")

Here we come, here we come,
To the beat of fife and drum,
Marching on, fighting on, everywhere we go.
Victory, victory, victory is close at hand,
Aiming true, winning through, Robin's Merry Band.

With a zip and a zest that's peerless,
With a cheer to wake the dead,
With a courage dauntless and fearless,
We are always way ahead -- rah, rah!
With a fight and a will to conquer
That keeps us in the fore,
We will win in forty-seven
For it's Green forevermore.
