First Annual SoCal Cal-List Eventual Sail-In Planning Committee Meeting

1538: David Owen approaches boat-lacky who appears to be attempting to force a liquid past the hatch seals on a Cal 2-29 on the #1200 dock. Owen asks a totally innocent question and is attacked with a high pressure riot control device.

1540: After proving identity, Owen is welcomed to MDR by Per Curtiss, AKA PC, krypto-official Cal-List Roving Ambassador, who has now abandoned hostilities.

1545: Owen is given exterior tour of Merit 25, a cunning and speedy looking craft with several miniature silhouettes of various size Catalinas stenciled on the cockpit coamings, and a nearby Cal 29, owned by fellow Cal-list sailor, Stu. 1547: Owen, still seething at Cleverly's (not in attendance) inability to see the inherent weakness of wheels, throws his 218 lbs. onto Stu's tiller to prove it's superiority.

1600: Curtiss removes final splinters from Owen's forehead and sweeps surplus wood shards into scupper while Owen pencils out an invoice for custom steering modifications.

1605: Mike Harris approaches, appears dock-wise and wary. Owen observes that Harris is safely out of hose range. Curtiss introduces Owen to Harris.

1615: Boat Crawl commences with threesome visiting Cal 2-29, "Intangible" of Kurt Ford and Randi Swynford. Owen and Curtiss argue about power tools. Owen produces DeWalt 8" high speed grinder loaded with 24 grit production disk from his trunk. Owen demonstrates how rapidly grinder eats away rub-rails and nastily hidden hull to deck flange.

1656: Threesome discusses potential for Ford and Swynford to view rub-rail modification as "damage" and agree that Duct Tape will not only seal, but will seem appropriate to Alaskan owners. Harris pencils invoice while Curtiss and Owen finish tape-fairing.

1700: Concerned with recent closing of Huntington Beach due to high bacterial counts, Harris removes holding tank discharge hose from thru-hull and re-routes into bilge.

1715: Group conduct various tests to Intangible on behalf of Cal owners everywhere.
Notes to file:
1) Cal 2-29 bilge sump will initially hold 28 Corona bottles, but after careful crushing an additional 137 will fit.
2) Yanmar diesel difficult to hand start, but possible when air filter element is replaced with exactly 4 match-lite charcoal briquettes that have been burning for 18.5 minutes.
3) Barient 21 winch fully capable of bending boom when used to torque down jiffy reefing lines, though cringles rip out of sail-cloth readily.
4) Note to Peggy Hall--Cal 2-29 holding tank volume approximately equal to bilge area.
5) Ports polish nicely with automotive polish, but it's too time consuming. DeWalt 8" grinder works faster, but ports radically harder to see through and no longer of uniform thickness.

1820: Group agrees to test West System versus System Three epoxy on behalf of Cal List. In order to test for UV resistance as well as strength, companionway drop- boards deemed most convenient. 17 oz bi-axual cloth used to prevent resins from running. Report to follow in 24 hours.

1825: First of the party girls and musicians arrive.
Note to file:
1) Molded non-slip ineffectual for spike heels _or_ bass drum spikes.
2) Marine Owner's policies may not include enough liability and medical coverage for high paid working persons, according to shouted declarations of same.

1950: First of MDR police cruisers arrive. Curtiss, Harris and Owen depart via Intangible's compact life raft.

1955: Harris spots second police cruiser. Owen produces genuine Brian Toss approved butterfly knife. Curtiss slashes and scuttles life raft.

2114: Tour of Curtiss' potential Cal 31 purchase commences. Harris and Owen are impressed with craft, indignities expressed against recalcitrant seller. Felony conspiracies occur. It is determined that seller should consume feces and expire.

2145: Party of three visits Harris' Cal 27. Technical session ensues as result of recent dismasting of important Cal-List Webmaster and dignitary Rusty Russell. Harris has determined that no rot exists in bulkhead where main chainplates terminate. Curtiss and Owen recommend prophylactic removal of bulkhead as only 100% guaranteed method of excluding potential for future rot.

2205: DeWalt 8" grinder returned to Owen's trunk. Harris'' chain plates moved outboard and safely duct taped to topsides. Deck holes filled with shredded duct tape and kevlar reinforced mylar found wrapped around head stay of nearby J-105. No future rot problems anticipated.

2235: Curtiss, Harris and Owen retreat to planning chambers where first annual Southern California Cal Sail-in planning session is called to order. Previously ingested teak plywood dust and polyester coated glass fibers interfere with communication. MGDs determined as prudent prelude to top level discussions. Curtiss moves for a Catalina Island location, Harris seconds and Owen snatches the last Chicken Satai skewer off the pu pu platter. Multiple rounds of MGD (Manly Guinness Drafts) are consumed.

0125: Owen's wife calls on cell phone. Meeting adjourned.

0135: Owen and Curtiss depart while Harris extinguishes fire in engine room of CAl 2-29, "Intangible." 1
