Rig Tensions

A rule of thumb for rig tension,
when lacking detailed specifications, is to have the uppers just tight enough so that when close hauled in a fresh breeze the leeward uppers do not flop. They can be soft, but not slack. Lowers are adjusted to keep the mast straight, or bent, as desired.

Adjusting on a beat to windward is the best way, as there is little tension to overcome in the leeward turnbuckles.

Generally duplicate turns from side to side, tack to tack. It's fun and rewarding. To learn, borrow a local racer for an hour's sail.
