0024 = Hull# or Class# ie: his was the 24th 35 II made
M = model year format
80 = 1980 model year
I = April (1980)
Model year ran from August to July, so A = August, B = Sept. C = Oct. for 1980 model year, A = Aug. 1979, B = Sept. 1979, ..........E = Dec. 1979, F = Jan. 1980, .........L = July 1980.
