As you know, we often have multiple replies to the original posting, and then we have replies to the replies.
As we have found out in the past, it makes everything much easier to track if you do two things when replying:
1. When replying to any message, please place the name of the author of the message your are replying to, at the end of the subject line, in parenthesis.
For example, if Joe Domino sends a message with a subject of "help me I'm sinking", when you reply you add (Joe) to the end of the subject line.
[Cal] Re: help me I'm sinking (Joe)
If Timm sends a reply to Joe and you are replying to Timm's reply, place (Timm) at the end of the subject line.
[Cal] Re: help me I'm sinking (Timm)
When this is done, everyone knows immediately what part of the thread you are actually replying to.
2. As if often the case, we "sometimes" (hehehe) divert away from the original subject within a thread... Please, please, when this happens make the diversion known by also changing the subject line. For example:
Bill sends a message re mast step leaks, and one way or another this leads to a discussion on caulking...
The first person (use me as an example) who leads away from the original thread should change the subject line with reference to the original, something like:
Deck Caulking, was [Cal} Re: Mast Step (Bill)
I know the above are just additional stress for you to remember, but believe me it makes it easier for all concerned if they are adhered to. Oh, and please sign your messages so we know who you are, or at least setup your email preferences so your name appears in the message header. Thanks for your time and enjoy this, the A1, list on the 'Net.
