At approximately 5:30 PDT today, Thursday, I was watching
various sailboats coming down the main channel of Marina
del Rey. For some strange reason I focused on one
particular boat. Maybe because from a distance it looked
like a Cal. As it got closer, it was indeed a handsome Cal
29 - and looked like it was equipped for some good coastal cruising. As it got closer, I wagered a bet with myself and
said, "I bet that is Randy and Kurt". But then I saw a
small dog doing what all dogs do onboard - telling the
human types where they should be pointing the boat, which
in this case was toward where I was standing - because
behind me was a broad rise of green grass with a grouping
of trees. Sure enough, they pulled into the guest docks
alongside the main channel, near where I was.
This young athletic type gal jumped off with a bow line and
made it fast. Knee pads and harness in place. I figgered
this must be Randy, and called out, "I think you look like
a Randy". Sure enough she said, are you Per? They arrived
smart as any good Cal club menmber would into a strange
harbor (too bad they wern't flying the new Burgee - it
would have made it much easier).
Safe and sound from their continuing trip down the
California coast. A tree of two later for "Jed", and a beer
or three later for us, plans were made for a day tomorrow
at Disneyland.
The story continues........
