"Charlie Husar, upon having his reputation impuned by an officer of USSA would like it stated for the record that some of his sailing accomplishments so far are as follows...
I am High Point scorer for the CBYRA Cruising One Design (COD) Division (11-12 fleets over the years with 1500+ starters a year). I've had that role for 12 years.
I am an officer in my sailing club.
I have had a leading role in holding together the CAL 25 fleet for the last 15 years, and am presently commodore.
Among other things over the years, our fleet has sponsored sail days for boy scout troops.
I am racing announcer for a ferryboat full of paying sponsors in the annual Annapolis Hospice Cup charity regatta.
I have worked all positions in race committees numerous times as well as often sitting protest committees.
I an co-founder for the Annapolis Good Old Boat regatta that celebrates the fact that some great boats were built over the years that are still solid and able to compete. I think that US Sailing ignores this part of sailing in favor of the carbon fiber wonders that will fold up like a taco when stressed. I have spawned numerous racers and sailors off my racing crews (some starting as kids), and have pulled in people who are friends and family of cal-list participants to get them into Annapolis sailing. I find the one-to-one is the best teaching method.
Long story longer, I understand the idea of giving back to a sport I love, and I do it. Conservative estimate is 2-3 man months of effort a year in service to sailing. This on top of my racing schedule.
