I guess this is what you have all been waiting for, how to get your own web site, and how to make a start on it! Well, i`m not gonna tell you!!! Oh, alright then, stop having a mardy, and get your pen and paper handy, because this will take you a while to copy down, but only 10 minutes to set your own site up! Grab your drink, make yourself comfortable, and we can get started....Here goes nothing!......

The first thing you have to do is use your jump button and type in the following address....http://geocities.yahoo.com/home

The page that you see in front of you has three blue boxes on, one says "build a page", one says "edit pages", and one says "upload files". Above "edit pages" you will see, "sign in". Click on that and it takes you to your next page.
On the next page you see "returning geocities members", "I am a new user", and "I`m already registered with Yahoo!".Go to "sign me up!", ( which is under the title "I`m a new user" ), and click it.

On this page, you will see what looks like empty boxes for you to type in. Don`t type anything yet! If you are starting a web site up and you live in the UK, you need to click on the blue writing at the top of the screen, which says "Non-US sign up form". ( If you are from US,then continue on the page below the blue writing. )
Once you have clicked on the "Non-US sign up form", another screen appears, and what looks like the exact same form from the previous page! It`s not! This form accepts our English postal codes further down the page!

So, let`s start from the top of the form. First of all, you are asked to create your Yahoo! ID, in the blank box, next to Yahoo! ID, type in the name that you wish to see your site called ; for example, perhaps you go on chat as Cherry, you could call your site "cherry_uk", ( you must use the _ because using the space bar doesn`t work ) and if someone has already got the name you chose, either make a new one up or variations on your chosen name will come up on screen, all you have to do then is click at the side of the one that you prefer.
Underneath Yahoo! ID is a blank box which you must put a password in. ( The password is necessary for when you log on to edit your web pages ) It`s best to keep your password simple, so you don`t forget it,but don`t worry if you do forget it, Yahoo! has that covered too!

After filling in the password and re-typing it again, the next step is for if you do forget your password!. Fill in the form by selecting a question that Yahoo! will ask you, should you forget your password. The options are already on screen, just choose which one you want, and fill in the answer box below that.
Next, fill in your birthdate, the box that says "select one" gives you the month that you were born in. Select your month, and at the side, fill in the small, blank box with the date that you were born on. In the larger box, put in the full year that you were born, eg, 1965 and not just "65" because it won`t work!
The next box to fill in is your current e-mail address, eg, joe.bloggs@uk.dreamcast.com.

The next boxes are all labelled easily too, this helps you fill the form in faster. "Country", select the country that you live in, ( if you are a Dreamcast user from the UK, select United Kingdom from the list ) If you are from another country, please select the country that you live in. Next is "Primary Language" ; select UK ( English ) or what ever language that you speak in your country. Next is "Gender", enter what sex you are, male or female. Next is "Occupation" ; chose which one best suits you, if you can`t see your`s, chose "other". Next is "Industry", again chose which one suits you best.
You are now asked if you have any interests, you don`t have to cross any of the boxes, as this is optional .At the bottom of this page, you now see "Submit this form". Click on that!

If for any reason there has been a problem with any of the details that you have typed in, they will be high-lighted on this page and you can correct them. Re-submit if you have to make any changes to your form.

The next page then says "Welcome to Yahoo! ( and the name that you have chosen )
This now gives you your account details in a yellow headed box, underneath that box is "Continue to Yahoo! Geocities" in blue writing, click on that!
You will again see the three boxes, "build a page", "edit pages", and "upload files". ( If you look above the "build a page" box,you will see "welcome, and your ID name that you have chosen for your site! ) Now, click on the "edit pages" box and you will be taken to the next page which says "Pick a neighbourhood for your home page". Select one from the catergories that best suits you and click on it.
The next page asks you what your homepage ( website ) will be about. Fill in the blank spaces and click on the appropriate circle to describe your site. Once you have done that, submit once more.

And there you have it!, Congratulations, ( your ID name ) Welcome to Yahoo! Geocities...A table with your ID and home page information appears before your very eyes!
Like it suggests, write down all the information somewhere safe for future reference. You will see a long and short-cut version of your URL, write those down too,as you will need them for advanced construction on your web site, which i will be covering on a later page! Once you have all your details written down, click on "build your homepage now!"

The next page offers you the choice of editing for either beginners or advanced. All us Dreamcast users have to use the advanced side, and click on "open file manager".

Finally, you see your web site in its editing state. Underneath the buttons that say, New, Copy, Rename, Edit, Delete and Move, there is a small box. Cross that, ( it`s next to "index.html" ) go up to the Edit button and click that.
You have just opened your index.html file, and you should see loads of writing on that page. It all needs deleting, so off you go, get deleting!
Once that has been done, type in the following on your now, blank page, <html> You always start a page with this tag and end a page with </html> These tags tell your computer where your page starts and ends. Once you have these tags on your page, click on the "save and continue editing" button, ( this button saves your work and alllows you to carry on afterwards, it`s also a good idea to keep using this button incase there is ever a power failure and your work is always saved then! ) When you have finished working on you page, click on the "save" button and it takes you back to the home page of your editing files.

And that my friends, is how you set up your own web site!. Over the coming pages, i`m going to explain how to add plain, coloured backgrounds to your page, write in different text colours, show you how to make links to other peoples web site or to your own web pages.

Please be patient with me though, because these subject matters are HUGE and remember i have to check all of the topics out and write them up on my web pages for you too! I will also have some really cool links to other peoples web sites that provide backgrounds, animated gifs, jpg`s and midi and wav files. Don`t worry if all of that has just confused the hell out of you, i`m hoping to show you the easy stuff first! So with the knowledge that you can have a really colourful web site with some fantastic music playing on them too, can you contain your excitement any longer? I`m afraid you will have to until my next page is completed! Or you can buy the Sega Dreamcast book that`s available in the on-line shop or find it at a book store near you, it`s not too badly priced, but it only has a few pages in it about web site construction, so save your money, be patient, and i will work as fast as i can to give you all the info that you need for free! Good luck and Best wishes on the Birth of your new Web site!

Love from Enigma.xxxxxxx
