The position of the graphically represented keys can be found by moving your mouse on top of the graphic.

Turn your calculator on
Press The On Key: Row 9 Column 1.
Clearing the memory
Press The Second Key: Row 1 Column 1 It's light blue. The Matrix Key: Row 3 Column 2 (You will see the word STAT above the key.) Press The Right Arrow Key: upper right side The Right Arrow Key: upper right side The Two Key: Row 8 Column 3 (should see ClrData) The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5. The screen should say Done.  

 

Entering data
Press The Second Key: Row 1 Column 1 It's light blue. The Matrix Key: Row 3 Column 2 (STAT is above the key.) Press The Right Arrow Key: upper right side The Right Arrow Key: upper right side The One Key: Row 8 Column 2. You'll see Data at the top and a list of variables: x1, y1, x2, y2, .... Type in your first x value and press The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5. Type in your first y-value and press The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5. Type in your second x-value, The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5, second y-value, The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5. Continue in this manner until you are finished with your data.

 

Plotting a graph

Press The Second Key: Row 1 Column 1 It's light blue. The Matrix Key: Row 3 Column 2 The Right Arrow Key: upper right side (The word DRAW will be highlighted.) The Two Key: Row 8 Column 3. You should see the word Scatter on the screen. Press The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5 and you'll see the graph.
histogram
Press The Second Key: Row 1 Column 1 It's light blue. The Matrix Key: Row 3 Column 2 The Right Arrow Key: upper right side (The word DRAW will be highlighted.) The One Key: Row 8 Column 2. You should see the word Hist on the screen. Press The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5 and you'll see the graph.

Warning: the Hist command will not work if two of your x-values are the same. It also won't work if there is a different number of x-values and y-values.


Erasing a graph

The TI-81 will print consecutive graphs on top of each other. If you don't want this, use the following instructions to clear the graph screen.

Press The Second Key: Row 1 Column 1 It's light blue. The P R G M Key: Row 3 Column 3 (you should see Draw above the key). The first option is 1:ClrDraw. Press The One Key: Row 8 Column 2 The Enter Key: Row 9 Column 5.

Turning the calculator off
Press The Second Key: Row 1 Column 1 It's light blue. The On Key: Row 9 Column 1
