Chris Griffard, Certified Master Groomer

Chris takes pride in giving each dog individual attention and gentle care while giving your pet the style that you have chosen. Chris Griffard has been grooming at Lockport Animal Hospital since early 1996. However, she has been involved in the dog world since 1965, showing in conformation, obedience and agility. Always taking pride in the condition and grooming of the dogs she exhibited, Chris attended grooming school in 1995 and after completing the course competed in her first grooming competition. She received a third place for first timers’ and later moved to another more competitive class and received another third place. 
In 1998, she became one of only a very few in Will County to become a Certified Master Groomer from the International Professional Groomers, Inc. The I.P.G. program is a standardized method of voluntary testing of the groomer’s professional knowledge, techniques and abilities. Required as part of the testing process is the actual grooming of four different dogs, a sporting dog, two from the terrier group and either a bichon or a poodle. The grooming is done as the certifiers watch. Written exams on these groups are also done.
The extensive “Masters” exam contains approximately 400 questions covering the working, toy, hound, and herding groups. Also included are questions regarding groomer terminology, general health, first aid, safety, chemical management and feline care. After successfully passing all phases of testing, the I.P.G. awards the applicant the status of “Certified Master Groomer”. 
Chris is also a long time member of both the Illinois State Professional Dog Groomer’s Association and the International Professional Groomers Inc. Both of these organizations provide continuing education and frequent seminars to keep the groomers updated on the newest techniques and equipment.
