K&N

Filter Induction Performance Kit INSTALLATION

This was a pretty easy mod. One suggetion DO NOT TRY THIS ALONE!!.

This is the complete FIPK setup that you get from K&N. It comes with all the mounting hardware and a cleaning kit. Part #57-3010-1.

As you can see from this picture there is quite a size differance between the new and old air intake tube.

The first thing you need to do is remove the old air intake system. I took out every thing including the Bellows. Don't forget the air pump hose. The head lamp control module is located on the interior air duct. You will see it. It's a square box with a bunch of wires going to it. I relocated it on the drivers side fenderwell under the fuse box with the double sided adhesive pad that comes with the FIPK. See #2 on the install guide pic, far right.

You will need to cut and reshape the radiator rib on the drivers side so the new tube will clear it. See #1 on the install guide, far left.

Look down where he original air duct hole is and you will see the small hole where the clip was holding the interior air duct in place. You will need to drill a hole in the mounting plate (MP) to secure it with the hex head bolt provided. The next step can be done one of two ways. You can take off the undertray now and mark the MP from under the car or do what I did and just stick your hand through the hole in the MP and mark it that way. See #3 in the install pic, center. This is the MP in place. Then take the MP out and drill the hole. I did most of this prep work a few days before I put the FIPK in.

Now your ready to start the FIPK install. Remove the undertray. There are eight 3/8 bolt and two in the air deflector (I used an 8mm on these) holding it in place you will need to take out. After you get all ten of the bolts out just pull the undertray out.

Place the MP in the original air duct hole. I put a extra washer on the top of the MP so the hex bolt would not dig into it. The rubber washer went in between the MP and the fender well, and the metal fender washer and the lock nut went on from under the car. My 10 year old son Jordan help me with this. With a 7/16 box end and socket, we tightened up the bolt and lock nut.

With the MP in place I assembled the new air tube, MAF, and Bellows out side the engine bay. Be sure to put all the clamps on the new set up. One on the tube side of the large rubber ring and one on the MAF side. Go ahead and tighten the tube side clamp but wait on the MAF side. I then placed every thing back in the engine bay. Slide the filter end of the new intake tube into the hole in the MP and set it in place. Then put the Bellows back on the Throttle Body and tighten the clamp. Once you gat the MAF in a good position, tighten the MAF side clamp and put on the air pump hose.

Now for the hard part. YOU WILL NEED HELP WITH THIS STEP. Jordan had to push down on the intake tube from the top of the car while I put the new filter on from the bottom. Place the filter clamp on the intake tube, not on the filter. Then with your helper pushing down on the intake tube, push the filter in place. Slide the clamp onto the filter. Hold the filter in place with your head, don't laugh, it works, hold the clamp with one hand and tighten it with the other (the 8mm again). This is the easiest way to get the filter on.

Now replace the under tray and ten bolts, and your done!

FIPK installed
This is the finshed install of the FIPK.

It really didn't take that much time, but you should get someone to help you. The SOTPs on this mod was outstanding!! I would highly recomend this mod to everyone.
