Rio de Janeiro - World Cup top scorer Ronaldo insists he is keeping the half-moon haircut that he sported as Brazil won their fifth world crown last month.

Ronaldo, who capped a return from 18 months of severe injuries to score both goals in the 2-0 defeat of Germany in the World Cup final, said he had ignored the criticism of his team-mates over the unusual hairdo.

"I'm going to keep it," he said. "I'm not going to let down the thousands of kids all over the world who have copied me."

Ronaldo, who finished the World Cup as top scorer with eight goals, is currently on holiday in Brazil before returning to Italian club Inter Milan.

He said he would like to return to club football in Brazil one day, probably with Flamengo.
