"So, did you get everything packed already?" Max asked Michael while at
dinner.
Isabel and Liz thought it would be nice if they spend Michael last night in
New York together.
"The movers got all my furniture and appliances so I just have my clothes to
take with me."
"That must've been a kick back job considering you have hardly any furniture
or appliances" Isabel teased.
"Well, when you come to LA you're not invited to my place which is going to
be hooked up. I just haven't had much time" Michael argued.
"Now I'll have
no friends and no social life so I'll have time to decorate"
"Not necessarily, Kyle and Tess are there, Alex and Maria" Liz mentioned.
Maria. Michael and Maria had broken up almost three years ago. It wasn't
chaotic and hateful. They left each other with understanding. They came to
an agreement that it wasn't working that it couldn't. Sometimes Michael
wondered if it was them that weren't working hard enough. They promised to
be friends and they were. But whenever they saw each other every now and
then. There was still this tension.
"Yeah, you're right. I got them there. It'll be great"
Michael had tried dating in New York but no one had what he was really
looking for.
Interestingly enough Maria had the same problem.

"Maria I'm sorry. I thought you'd like him" Kyle defended himself.
"Kyle the whole night was about him. His batting average. How much he makes
per game. All the women that throw themselves at him. I had to listen to
that shit all night thanks to you"
"Okay, okay I made a bad choice" Kyle agreed.
"What choice was that?" Tess asked as she walked in from shopping.
"He set me up with one of his loser friends"
"Who?"
"Billy Wilder"
"Kyle why would you do that?" Tess lectured "He's a pig"
"Okay, fine you're right I'm going to watch TV" he escaped as quickly as
possible.
"Anyway besides that how are you? I haven't seen you in a few days"
"I know it was work. I had this case. But it closed now. One more point
for the good guys" Maria informed. She was never too in to detail. Tess
didn't like to hear all the gory stories of LA
"So, have you heard?"
"Yes, he's coming in tomorrow right?"
"Yeah and we're going to invite him to dinner on Thursday, so you should come"
"Okay I'll come after work" she agreed.
"This could be a very good thing. You know I always-"
"Tess don't" Maria interrupted. "Don't start. I told you that stuff in
confidence. I don't want you to throw it back at me" Maria had admitted to
Tess that she still cared deeply for Michael and she thought that maybe their
break up was a mistake. She just found she wasn't brave enough to fix it.
"I'm not throwing it back I'm trying to help" she told Maria who was avoiding
eye contact. "Why do you do that?"
"What?"
"Try to keep so much in. You don't have to be tough police detective around
me, you know. We're friends"
Maria valued her friendship with Tess a great deal, especially at times like
this.
"I should go. But I will be here on Thursday" Maria got up and left.
