11th River Severn Canoe Cruise October 2006
Report by Geraint & Tom
We traveled by car to Hampton Loade were we set up camp along side the
River Severn. The next morning (Saturday) after breakfast we changed into our
canoing gear and to went to Ironbridge were the cruise started from. We had
only canoed a short distance when we came to the rapids, we were told just keep
paddling like mad and don't stop.It was exciting and a bit scary. Then we had to
canoe all the way to the campsite the river was flowing fast which made it hard
to keep in a straight line.We had turns in paddling in the Cata-canoe and in a
kayak called Harry.
When we arrived at the campsite we had to pull the canoes out of the river
up a real steep bank. After good meal we had an early night because we were
really tired.
Sunday morning we had to take the tents down straight after breakfast
so they could be taken to Stourport were the cruise ends.
When we was canoing down the river we had a water fight with the
scouts from Saltney Ferry Group. Near the end of the cruise there was
some big power boats which made waves when they passed us. At Stourport
we had to pull the canoes out the river and packed them on the
trailer. Then we drove home.
