Hey Sco: A Short Film by Ed Burns

Hey Sco is a short film that Ed made while at Hunter College in New York. According to the book "Three Screenplays by Edward Burns," it was one of three short films he made there. The other two were - in his own words - "godawful" but Hey Sco (the first of the three) "isn't too shabby."

The movie is "a 15-minute black comedy about two Long Island losers who kill their best friend and bury him under the fifty-yard line at their high school football field."

Ed cast himself in the film, as well as his friend Chris McGovern (Incidentally, McGovern had a role in The Brothers McMullen that ultimately was cut; however. he plays his Hey Sco charatcer, Sully, in No Looking Back). Armed with $1,200 he borrowed from family members, a CP-16 camera, and a 3-man crew, Ed made his very first film.

He took Hey Sco to the Independent Feature Film Market, but did not attract any investors or agents. At that point, Ed got a job as a production assistant on Entertainment Tonight. And you know the story from there....
