Why Buffy Kicked Ass-
'The show, which ended its seven-season run in May, began as a reification of the horrors of high school. What if that ambitious cheerleader was a witch? What if the girl no one paid attention to really turned invisible? What id the swim coach reallt would do anything to win? What if sleeping with your boyfriend made him act like a different person, turned your Angel  into a cruel and vicious monster?'
The Why Buffy Kicked Ass article by Virginia  Postrel talks about Buffy the series ending in a postive way. It's  about how evil exists, redemption is possible, evil must be fought, evil never goes away, we don't get to choose what we do,  life's pleasures are precious and the ending of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
It's great read... I (Michaela) recommend any true Buffy fan to read it :)

The news from Sunnydale Press on this page is from the 4th Febuary, 2004 right down the page to the 9th September 2003.

"We may have not seen the last of Buffy The Vampire Slayer after all. Sarah Michelle Gellar is in negotiations to guest star on Angel for two episodes next year, according to US mag Tv Guide. This would not only see Buffy re-united with Angel (David Borneanaz), but  also with Spike (James Marsters), who is joining the spin-off as a regular character next season. The president on the WB network, which makes Angel, said that bringing some of the characters from Buffy on to the show helped in deciding not to cancel it."

SCI FI WIRE
"Cordelia's character took off in a direction that was different from what anyone probably expected. Things got very dark with the love interest story between Angel and Cordelia and with the whole Cordelia-Connor storyline. Harmony will be a little bit more like Cordelia was at the beginning of Buffy than Cordelia was on Angel. Harmony is there to spice things up a little."- David Boreanaz Talks Angel Babes
"Spike in the house. Very excitifying. Spike brings the kind of tension, menace, pathos and 'acting' you've come to expect from 'ANGEL'. And more importantly: ever wondered what he looks like in a dress? Well, wonder no more! But i'm getting ahead of myself.

Harmony! The deadliest foe Angel has ever faced, brillient and diabolical. What terrifying schemes will she hatch? Well none; she's mostly just really funny, and also wears a dress. The there's your old buddies: Angel (occasionally, he will brood), Wesley (despite months of pain operations, still British), Gunn (the lovable skipper who just HATES being trapped on that island with his 'Lil' Buddy'), Fred (she's got it all: brains, beauty, and brains!), and Lorne (Green)."- Joss Whedon

A letter from Joss Whedon to the fans
"We've been to some very dark places, haven't we?"

"We are in the axis of evil now"

"There's a lot of conflict. There's a lot of humour."

"Well, Angel's love life is very sporadic. One moment of true happiness can lead to many souls being killed off very fast."

"His one true love is Buffy. Always will be, and, uh, it's going to be difficult for him to find somebody who can top that."

"We are going to be throwing characters at Angel."

"There's action, there's adventure, there's love, there's romance."

"I will be directing an episode at some point this year. It will be a first time for me."

Jeffrey Bell, co-executive producer of The Wb's Angel, told SCI FI Wire that the vampire series is significantly lighter in tone this year, its fifth. "Oh, I would say it's several degrees lighter, but then again, we're not hosting an apocalypse this year," Bell said in an interview. "When you host an apocalypse, people are not real happy. It's very hard to go some funny story when the sun has been blotted out and a beast has ripped out your innards and killed 5,000 people and there have been earthquakes and whatnot."

"Last year, we realized Angel and the guys didn't win many episodes," Bell said. "At the end of every episode, it was like, 'oh, and they got their ass kicked.' "

"We definately want to see Charisma again," Whedon told the AP, according to a report on Zap2it.com. "She has an important part to play this season to bring some closure." If things work out, there's a chance viewers could see Cordelia around the midway point of the season, Zap2it reported.

The new Buffy album is must have item for any true Buffy fan. It includes music from the series seasons five, six and seven. The album has a total of twelve tracks to listen to.
The album has a variety of artists, Sarah McLachlan, Angie Hart, Aimee Mann, The Breeders, Blur and more.
Some think the album is too up beat and poppy but in my opinion (Michaela), I don't think it's too up beat at all. I know the first album may seem more true to the show since it's all dark but this new cd is supposed to relate to the last three seasons and i think it fits well with the past three seasons if you ask me.

The cast and crew of The Wb's Angel commemorated the show's 100th episode, now in production, on Dec. 4th with a cake and ceremony on the Wolfram & Hart set in Los Angeles. The episode will also mark the return of former cast member Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) to wrap up her character's storyline; Carpenter, who left the series at the end of last season, showed up on the set with her new infant son in arms.
Guests included Joss Whedon, who co-created the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff with David Greenwalt, and stars David Borneanaz, James Marsters, Alexis Denisof, J.August Richards, Amy Acker, Andy Hallet, Mercedes McNab, Sarah Thompson and Christian Kane, who returns after a lengthy hiatus to reprise his character of outsed evil Wolfram & Hart lawyer Lindsey McDonald. All enjoyed a huge white cake with "Angel 100" etched in blood-red icing.

"The idea of the show was redemption, and what it takes to win back life when you've misused yours terribly," Whedon told the gathered crowd on Stage 5 Paramount Pictures, where the show is filmed. 'It's gone through a lot of different permutations. A lot of characters. A lot of different styles. But ultimately that has never left. Angel, to me, is important, because it's about how an adult faces what they've done with their life, goes forward with it, overcomes it. These are things that have a great deal of meaning to me. Plus, awesome fights. And, you know, if I have any message for Americans, [it's that] you can solve problems through fisticuffs."

D Director-
David Borneanaz, star of The Wb's vampire series
Angel, told SC FI Wire that he directed an upcoming episode of the show.
"I had an opportunity...to step into the director's chair, and I've always been fascinated with the camera and the movement and communicating with other actors."
"Directing is really about telling someone to put applesauce on the table... And some people know how to do it, amd some don't."
David directed the upcoming episode "Soul Purpose"."Soul Purpose" is an episode about when a parasite gets attached to Angel and puts him through a series of hallucinations.
The episode is scheduled to air in America on The Wb on Jan.12,2004.

Denisof Angles For Angel Guest-
Alexis Denisof, who plays Wesley on The Wb's
Angel, told SCI FI Wire that he's eager to get new wife, former Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Alyson Hannigan, to guest on the show. "Yeah, i'd love to get Aly back over here," he said. "It was so much fun when she visited us last year. I mean, not just because she's a huge talent, but because I love her and I would like have her here with me at work."

It's unclear when or if Hannigan's
Buffy character, Willow, will show up the current season. "It's always a question of storyline and scheduling," Denisof said." And not just her career, because there's a lot of stuff going on for her......I don't know what their plans are, frankly. ... I think they've been clever about bringing characters from Buffy over here, in the sense that...they've been smart not to just give away Angel and have it become sort of a tour bus for the Buffy characters. ....When you bring characters from Buffy over, they have to be channeled through what is essentially Angel rather than Buffy."
Did you like what you read and wanted more?
James Marsters, who playes Spike in The Wb's Angel, dismissed to SCI FI Wire any perceptions that his vampire-with-a-soul character is taking over the show from David Borneanaz's other vampire-with-a-soul. The tension between Spike and Angel "was there from the very first, from [the] 'school hard' [episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in which Spike was introduced]," Marsters said in an interview on the show's Los Angeles set. "I think because there's tension between the characters is why this character and not another one from Buffy came over to the show. But yeah, between David and me functionally, there are no sparks at all."
Marsters OK with Angel....
Jeff Bell, co-executive producer of The Wb's Angel, told SCI FI Wire that the series will resume original episodes with "Harm's Way", an episode devoted to almost exclusively to the character of Harmony, played by  Mercedes McNab.

Bell described "Harm's Way" as pretty much a stand-alone episode.

The story is really told from Harmony's [point of view]. She's in pretty much every scene we see, so you are limited to how she perceives everbody. It's all about Harmony, and Mercedes did a great job."

Angel's Harmony Up Front.....
Whedon: No Buffy On Angel?-
Joss Wheddon, co-creater of The Wb's Angel, told SCI FI Wire that he doubts that Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar will ever appear on the spinoff series.
"I don't know that we'll see her on the show," Whedon said in an interview at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention. "I don't know that she'll ever pick up a stake again. I don't know. But that's really something you'd have to ask her."

Gellar recently had quoted as saying that she probably won't appear in an
Angel episode this season, which could be the show's last. Whedon said that he hasn't received word on Angel's fate yet, but that it would be nice if Gellar reciprocates the favor Angel star David Borneanaz made by appearing in Buffy's final episodes.

"If it became definately the end of Angel, that might come up," Whedon said. "But since we don't know, you know, we're counting on anything. You know, Angel really is its own thing, and the cast.... they have a lot to go through anyway. I would love to see her on the show. But we're definately prepared for anything."

Brendon Talks Buffy Film-
Former Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon told Tv Guide Online that a proposed Buffy feature film is a ways off. "We've talked about it," Brendon (Xander) told the site. "I'm sure if it happens, it'd be in a couple of years."
Brendon added that none of the cult series' stars have signed on to a do a movie yet. "No,no,no," he said. Series creator Joss Whedon "just always wanted the movie. We've only be off air seven months, so we're just trying to catch a breath."
But Brendon said he has ideas for his character, who lost an eye in the series' last season. "If we do a
Buffy film, I'm going to be wearing an eye patch," he said. "Let's not have Willow fix it [with magic]. Let's do the patch."

Old Friends Visit Angel-
Joss Whedon, co-creater of The WB's vampire series Angel, told SCI FI Wire to expect familiar faces as the current fifth season winds up, including Andrew (Tom Lenk from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) and the possible return of Connor (Vincent Kartheiser). Kartheiser's character-the son of Angel (David Borneanaz) and Darla (Julie Benz)-left the series at the end of last season after Angel made a deal with the nefarious law firm of Wolfram and Hart.
.....Lenk, whose nerdy character survived the apocalyptic finale of Buffy last spring, will definately be showing up in a Slayer-themed episode due Febuary, Whedon said.

David Borneanaz, star of The WB's Angel, told SCI FI Wire that he came prepared for his debut as a director in the upcoming episode 'Soul Purpose', which airs Jan.21. "I came in with some really strong ideas and soem strong visuals that I wanted to do, and I had big.. meeting with [executive producer] Jeff Bell, " Borneanaz said in an interview at The WB's winter press preview. "A lot of the ideas I wanted to do kind of got, not squashed, but just toned down a bit, because I had to remind myself that I am shooting an Angel show not this crazy, cinematic, swopping thing," he said with a laugh.

Angel Star Directs Self...
'Angel' Seeks Redemption with Episode 100-
While 'Buffy' was about (take your pick) female empowerment, the hero's journey and the ties that bind, in the case of 'Angel', Whedon explains, "The idea of the show was redemption and what it takes to win back a life whne you've misused yours terribly. 'Angel', to me, is so important because it's about how an adult faces what they have done with their life, goes forward with it, overcomes it. It has a great deal of meaning to me...plus, awesome fights."

The word is out that Alyson Hannigan is playing the role of Sally in the London production of 'When Harry Met Sally'.
Luke Perry will play the role of Harry in this production.
The Theatre Royal stage version opens on Febuary 20th and is run for about 16 weeks.
News is out that Sarah will be playing the role of Karen, a young woman hired to care for an old woman who is a silent witness to 'the grudge'. Jason Behr (Max from Roswell) has been cast as Karen's boyfriend.
Other people who have been casted to be in the English language remake of the Japanese hit horror movie "Ju-On" are Clea Duvall ("Carnivale," "Identity") and Kadee Strickland (a supporting player in "Something's Gotta Give" and "Anything Else").
Some of the original Japanese actors from "Ju-On" will reprise their original roles as well.
"The Grudge" is the curse of one who dies in the grip of a powerful rage which gathers and affects the places in which that person lived. Those who encounter this murderous supernatural curse die and a new curse is born -- passed on like a virus, from victim to victim in an endless, growing chain of horror.
Filming is taking place in various places in Tokyo and at Toho Studios.
Director Shimizu wrote and directed the original film and producers for the remake include "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi. The screenplay for the new film is credited to Stephen Susco.

Finding Love in the Whedonverse-
Hannigan co-starred as Buffy's best pal, witch Willow Rosenberg.
Denisof guest starred as stuffy British Watcher Wyndham-Pryce. That on-set meeting sparked a friendship that led to dating and eventually ended up with a wedding.
It's the kind of story Jane Austen probably would have loved--except the vampires.
After a courtship that didn't turn serious until Denisof left "Buffy" to join the cast of "Angel", the pair tied the knot last October in Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

"Harmony is still such a fool in love with Spike and he doesn't give her the time of day. He's a constant source of her pain. Unfortunately, I can relate. In my own life, i still go for the Spikes, as in, the bad boys. Hopefully, I'll get over this phase but it hasn't happned yet."

"In her heart, Harmony really wants to be good, but she's just inherently bad."

This season, I hope Harmony can: "Loose the superficial, ditzy blond identity. I tihnk right now, Harmony is still the antithesis of what people like in people. Lately, we are starting to show her vulnerability. We're opening her up in a way the audience has never seen her before. She;s starting to realize other people have feelings too. She may never be a role model but at least, someday, hopefully, people will see her for more than just a sterotype."

"Anything is possible on this show."

The evil Lawyer is back!-
One of Angel's early foes at W&H was Lindsey McDonald (Christian Kane), an ambitious lawyer with a lot to prove. He also had a teeny bit of a conscience and occasionally took Angel's side. Lindsey eventually left town in a battered pickup truck two seasons ago and was not seen again-- until "Destiny", when a very tattooed Lindsey appeared tp be in cahoots with Eve (Sarah Thompson), Angel's msyterious liasion to W&H's unseen Senior Partners.
"It's good to have Christian back," Borneanaz says. "He's my bud. It's all good. He's a great guy. I have fun with him, the tiny Texan. I was the one who reccomended it. I told Joss to bring him back. I told Christian I wanted him back. I initiated it at the beginning of the season, and it came to fruition."

Carpenter Cries For Angel
Carpenter Cries For Angel-
Charisma Carpenter, who returns to The Wb's Angel for the show's Feb. 4 100th episode, told the official Web site that shooting the segment was an emotional experience. "We've been crying for the last two days," Carpenter said in an interview taped during the episode's production last December. "I'm so physically drained."
In the episode, "You're Welcome", Carpenter reprises the character of Cordelia Chase, who awakens from her coma of last season to help Angel and the gang get back on track.
"David and I have been in a room talking and talking and talking for a couple of days," said Carpenter, who left the regular cast at the end of last season. "The director was crying. The crew was crying. We were crying. It's sad.....It's going to be a really good episode... Because it's really.. like a goodbye. Personally. Professionally. Storywise. So what a humdinger for the 100th episode."
Angel Looks Ahead-
Joss Whedon, co-creator of The Wb's Angel, told SCI FI Wire that the show's upcoming fifth-season finale will wrap up the current storyline but leave open the possibility of returning for a sixth season. No word has come yet on whether the show, which recently shot its 100th episode, will be picked up for another year.
