Besides canoeing the scenic Buffalo river, several other recreation opportunities are available in the area.

Natural Bridge.

• Johnsonville State Historic Park Located off U.S. Hwy. 70, the park is named for Military Governor Andrew Johnson. This 600-acre park on the eastern side of Kentucky Lake overlooks the site of the Battle of Johnsonville. Cavalry forces under Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest sank four Federal gunboats downstream and destroyed a Union Army supply depot at Johnsonville. Four of the original breastworks are beautifully preserved. • Buffalo River Trail Ride Horseback Riding Resort. The house, trails and stables lie on rich bottomland on the Buffalo River. The facility is open June 20-26, Aug. 1-7, and October 17-23. • The Lewis County Museum contains local history pieces as well as the big Game Trophy Collection of Dan Maddox, the Weatherby Rifle Champion.
  
  
• The Meriwether Lewis Park, Grave and Monument - bike and hiking trails, campground and picnic areas surround the grave of explorer Meriwether Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark expedition. TN Hwy. 20 and Natchez Trace. 38462.

• Near Waynesboro, you can visit the worlds only Double Span Natural Bridge. The stone spans 70 feet and is 45 feet high. Call (615) 722-9218 for more information.
  
  
• And if nothing else interests you, there is a little tavern right on down the road, with pool tables, darts, music and beer. It is located south on Hwy, 13, at the Bell Bridge put in point.
