Mill Lane... Recommend this page to a friend. I quote the "Jersey Guy" as he really helps explain the dilemma: "You mention that Mill Lane is further down toward Mill Basin and therefore don't understand why it is denoted at this location. Maybe the following will help at bit. "I lived right next to a section of Mill Lane (in the Mill Basin general area) at East 59th Street between Avenues 'N' and 'O'. I road my bike on that lane; had fights in that lane; used it for easy access to East 58th street and Ralph Avenue. It essentially was an extension of my father's house. I lived there from 1957 until I got married in 1974. "We recently sold that house in 2005. Virtually the entire lane is now private property except one small section on East 54th street or thereabout. Anyway, that stretch of Mill Lane, during most of those years, ran from Ralph Ave to about East 53rd Street. That's a total of about seven blocks or so. "I never really thought much about whether this was its original full length or not. But with the advent of the internet and sites like yours and others, I've located a lot more data about this little 'lane'. "Below are two photos borrowed from the marvelous website ... http://www.forgotten-ny.com "I think the two photos will help explain that Mill Lane use to be a much longer road and a major thoroughfare back in its day. The key point is that it shows Mill Lane to most definitely connect with Kings Highway which would help explain the photo on your site."
