In Kelly’s Apartment…

Kelly and Riley ran to the living room and waited patiently by the door.  They heard footsteps up the stairs. There was a knock and Kelly looked out of her peephole just to make sure that it was Madison, and then undid all the locks on the door.  Before the door had even opened an inch Kelly was embraced by Madison.  “It’s been so long!! I’ve missed you so much,” they both said at the same time.  They kept hugging and laughing and crying.  Riley was barking and jumping up and down.  Finally, after a few minutes everything had calmed down.  “Girl, we forgot about your cabbie.  He’s gonna be charging you up the kazoo. Let’s get your stuff inside,” Kelly said.  Madison began laughing again, “Honey, I’ve got my own limo out there, courtesy of Versace.  No need to worry about time.  I’ll have the chaffeur bring them up the stairs and then we can put them away.”  Madison walked back out the door and yelled down to the cabbie to bring all her bags up here.  Twenty minutes and 8 suitcases later everything was finally in. The girls said bye to the chauffeur and thanked him.  Madison asked the man to politely tell her boss that she would be living here for the remainder of her stay in New York and that she was no longer staying at the hotel.  He accepted her message and left. The girls were in the entryway still. Riley had calmed down and now he was sniffing around all the suitcases.

“God, how many do you need Madison?  There’s enough here for 25 people!!”  Kelly exclaimed.  Madison laughed, “I’m here for almost month and you know a model can’t be seen in the same outfit!”  Kelly laughed so hard she cried. “Well, I hate to tell you Madi, but your room is up a flights of stairs. Remember, the attic room. That’s where you’re staying.”  Madison scoffed at Kelly, “You’re putting me up in the attic.  What don’t I deserve a real bed?”  Kelly looked confused and then remembered, “Oh, I forgot.  The last time you were here the apartment was still kind bare wasn’t it? It’s all finished now.  It’s the neatest room, and it just got finished.  In fact the whole has just got finished about a month ago.  Anyways, it has a huge bed and a big bathroom up there for you.  You have a sitting room and a TV, and then you have a walk-in closet and a computer office and in your sitting room there is a great view of the city. I go up there sometimes to read.  It’s all decorated by Pier One.  It was Austin’s birthday gift to me.  Good enough?”  Madison’s mouth dropped, “Yeah, definitely. Man Ri, you must be doing good at your job.  I gotta see the rest of this place.  How much do you make?  My God.”   “Okay, let’s do the tour first before we go to the job of carrying all your things up those stairs,” Kelly said.  “Let’s start here I guess.  Here’s the entryway.  Riley’s bed is in here with his collar and leash, but he usually ends up sleeping with me.  Then we head into the living room.”  Madison stopped in her tracks. “Oh my jesus me.  This place is huge.  I don’t remember it being this big, but then I guess there wasn’t much in it back then was there?  Look at the TV, it’s huge, and all the beautiful furniture.  Oh my god, your kitchen. Who decorated for you? Who did this all?”  Madison said astonished.  “My parents did this for me.  They knew that I had bought a big ole’ lonely apartment and then that dumbass trashed me and what little things I had. I guess that they could tell that I was pretty low on life. The only thing good that had happened was that I had just recently gotten named head chief of staff at the hospital, so they wanted to congratulate me too, so they had PIER ONE decoraters come in and furnish my whole apartment.  It was a huge surprise.  I left to go to San Fransisco for a meeting like two months after the rape, right after you moved away, and I came back two weeks later and this is how I found it. They are so good to me. I’ve been adding little things for a couple of months, but this is all their work mostly.  It’s so nice to come home to this. My parents did all of it except your floor.  Austin did that one for my birthday.” Kelly said happily. “Man, I guess. Let’s keep going.” Madison said astonished  “Okay, after the kitchen it’s into the formal living room.  You remember.  Well, it looks a little different now.  It has the baby grand piano. I still play every night. I don’t do much entertaining, but when I get around to it, it will be nice to have.  Next room.  This is my bedroom.  Remember how I just had that little futon and Riley’s bed?”  Madison’s jaw dropped again.  “Good god.  Your bedroom is beautiful now. I love the big windows that look out into the city.  Wow, this is cool. Hey, they even painted the stairs up to the attic.  They look nice” Madison said.   Kelly said, “Yeah, I still can’t believe that I found an apartment with spiral staircases. Even then, I think it’s so cool that they go up into the attic.  They fixed the trap door into the attic so that’s it’s easier to push it up.  We can keep it open at night and talk through it.  Even after a year I have to remember that the stairs are right in the middle of my room.  I have forgotten many times and ran into them.  Not a good thing!”  “Yeah, really. Be careful. That’s so tight though. Show me the rest of this place. I’m dying to see it.” The girls kept on walking, “Hey, I don’t remember this. Since when does your closet connect your bedroom and your bathroom together?  Let me guess.  Your parents renovations huh?  They are so creative. I see you have all my clothes nicely organized,” Madison said as she searched through her friend’s clothes.  “I mean the one’s I gave you.  Hee hee.  I’m glad you can use them.”  They continued on through the closet into the bathroom.  “Your bathroom is tight.  I love the black tile with the silver. It’s great.  Oh my god, look at the Jacuzzi.  It’s so big.  Where did you find a clear one?  You can see all the cool machines making it work!!  Madison said astonished.  Kelly laughed,  “The wonders of science.  I don’t know where my parents found it.”  Madison replied, ”Cool, cool, cool.  Is that all on this floor? I can’t remember.”  Madison asked.  “Yeah, that’s about it.  All that’s on the top floor is your area.  And in the basement is the garage and the storage area.  It’s really not that much different down there.” Kelly said.  “Man, stop lying out of your teeth.  It’s beautiful and I am happy for you,” Madison said smiling at Kelly. “Let’s get your stuff upstairs, shall we?”  For the next half an hour the girls and Riley climbed the spiral staircase with all of Madison’s bags.
