Chapter One

The sun was finally setting. Nick sat alone, on a rock, near the beach, watching the waves break and crash on the moist sand. Tilting his head back, the tears rolled down his face. He wanted to end it, right now. He didn't want to deal with the large fan base and the crowds. He wanted his privacy, his sanity, his life for his own. He didn't want to share himself anymore.

He stepped down from the rock and began walking forward. Walking into the ocean. Walking into a place where he could find peace. Peace of mind and peace of soul.

He closed his eyes and continued walking, vaguely hearing a small voice call out his name. "Nick? Nick, what are you doing? Please don't. It's getting dark." Nick tried to ignore the voice, wanted to leave it behind, but he couldn't. He stopped where he was, not moving forward, not turning back. He didn't want to face the shell the voice came from.

"Nick, please come back." Nick began stepping backwards, not turning to face the person on the beach. The waterline descended down his body as he reached the shore. Turning to the voice, the small voice that cried out to him, he dropped to his knees. "Oh god, Aaron, what was I just about to do?"

Nick's head fell to the sand and he wept openly. Aaron sat next to his brother, resting his hand on his back, rubbing through his wet shirt. "Nick, you know what you were doing. Why were you doing it?"

"Don't ask me that. I've never lied to you and if I answer this I will be lying. I'd want to tell you I was just going for a swim or I didn't know what I was doing. I knew exactly what I was doing."

"But why? Nick, would you really leave me like that?"

"I wasn't thinking about you, what you'd feel, what you'd think, what BJ would think, what anyone would think. I didn't care."

"What would make you think like that? I love you Nick." He turned his head and looked at Aaron, seeing the tears that streaked down his face.

"I love you too, Aaron." Silence befell over the brothers. Aaron was scared. He maybe young, but he wasn't stupid. He saw the lack of life in Nick's eyes. There was always a fire in his eyes and something had distinguished the flame. "Nick, your fires gone. Please don't be sad."

"I can't do this anymore. I can't live and be happy and do anything. Man, why did this all have to happen to me. I've done nothing to deserve what my life has become." Grabbing his side, yet not moving, he screamed out. "Aaron, I want you to go, I don't want you to see me like this."

"I'm not leaving you."

"Aaron GO! I want to be alone. I want you to leave me alone." Aaron remained at the side of his brother, not giving up hope. "Aaron, please."

"No, Nick. I told you I love you. Why are you doing this?"

"Do you remember Brenda?"

"Yeah Nick. How could I forget? She's your girlfriend and you've known her forever, since you were younger than me."

"Aaron, she died last night. It was my fault... all my fault... I killed her."
