Chapter Nine

After Kelly hung up the phone, she sat on the couch trying to sort through her feelings. She felt as if someone had put her emotions through the spin cycle of the washer.

She was thrilled that Kevin had called her, but this was mixed with apprehension that she wasn't interesting enough and he wouldn't call again.

She was also excited about the Backstage passes, but worried that Kevin would forget and they wouldn't really be there. She was still upset that she had accidentally given Kevin the song. But she wasn't sure why. They were just words, so what was the big deal?

The big deal was that she had written that song specifically for Kevin. Not that she had ever thought he would see or hear it. It was kind of a little fantasy thing for her. She liked to imagine Kevin singing it just for her. That was before she had actually met him. Now she was afraid if he figured it out, he would think she was some obsessed fan. Well, I am....I just don't want Kevin to know it! she laughed to herself.

That was the problem, though. Kevin was very special to her. But so were the songs she wrote. And she was afraid of what would happen if things didn't work out between her and Kevin. Her heart was attached to that song, and she didn't want it broken.

If that happened, she knew things would never be the same again.

It had been dark for quite some time when Kelly finally realized she was hungry. She looked at the clock and was shocked to see what time it was. She felt like she had only been sitting there minutes, not hours! She decided to get something to eat, and then call Beth. She couldn't wait to tell her about the call from Kevin!

Twenty minutes later, she was dialing the phone. Beth answered on the second ring.

"Hello?"

"Hey Beth. It's me, Kelly."

"Kelly!" Beth exclaimed. "I didn't expect to hear from you this soon! It's only been a day. You miss me that much already?"

"Actually, yes!" laughed Kelly. "But I called because I have some news."

"Really? What's up?" asked Beth.

"Beth, he called! Kevin called!"

"Are you serious?" Beth asked, incredulously. "What did he say? C'mon girl, give me the scoop! I want all the juicy details!"

"Well, we didn't talk very long. He was getting ready for the show tonight. But he did ask me if I was going to be at the show here in San Diego."

"What did you tell him?"

"I told him that I hadn't planned on it, because I didn't have anyone around here to go with. Then he asked if I thought some front row seats and backstage passes would help!"

"What?!!"

"Yeah, he's fixing me up with four tickets and backstage passes!! Can you believe it?!" Kelly asked. "So....do you know anyone who might be interested in going with me?"

"Me!"

"Someone that would really like to go to another Backstreet Boys concert?"

"Me!"

"Someone that would love to have another chance to see AJ in all his glory? And possibly meet him in person?" Kelly teased.

"Me, me, me!" Beth practically screamed. "I'm there! You don't have to ask me twice."

Kelly couldn't resist one more dig. "You sure you don't mind flying all the way out here just for a concert?"

"Girl, you are driving me crazy! I already told you, I'm coming. And that's final!"

Kelly had to laugh at her friend. "I'm just playing with you. Do you think Hayley and Kimberly would want to come too?"

"Is grass green? Is the sky blue? Does AJ have tattoos? Of course, they'll want to come!"

"It's only two weeks away, so we need to make the arrangements. How about you call Kimberly and I'll call Hayley. Oh, and by the way, you all can stay at my place. That will save you the cost of a hotel, at least. It will be like one big slumber party!"

"This is great!" said Beth. "I was going through post-concert depression. This helps a lot."

They continued talking a little longer, before they both hung up to call the others. Kelly had to hold the phone twelve inches from her ear when she told Hayley the news. Even so, she thought she might be deaf on that side for the next couple of days!

By the time she got off the phone that night, everything was all arranged, and it was almost bedtime again. As Kelly lay in bed thinking over the events of the day, she realized that it was still Monday. It almost seemed as though a week had gone by since that morning, so much had happened.

It may have felt like a Monday when she woke up that morning, but since then, things had certainly changed.
