Chapter Five

"So what was that all about?" Kimberly, Hayley, and Beth were waiting for Kelly as soon as she walked in the room. "Are you in some kind of trouble?"

"Oh, it was nothing," said Kelly. "Just some unfinished business I had to take care of."

"Did it have anything to do with last night?" asked Kimberly.

Kelly was caught off guard. What do they know about last night? she wondered. "Last night? What do you mean?"

"Well you weren't here when we got back from the club. We were worried that something had happened to you," said Beth.

"Yeah, what did happen to you?" asked Hayley. "What time did you get in?"

"After you guys left, I couldn't sleep, so I wandered around for a while."

"Till three in the morning?" asked Hayley. "At least that's what time we got back, and you weren't here."

"Well, I went down to the lounge and played the piano for awhile. And then someone came in, and we got to talking, and before I knew it, it was 4:00 a.m."

"Who was it? Was it a guy?" asked Kimberly.

"Well...yes," admitted Kelly, reluctantly.

"A cute guy?" asked Beth.

"What did he look like? Where was he from? Are you going to see him again?" Hayley asked.

Kelly could see that they would be playing 20 questions until she filled them in. She really didn't want to talk about Kevin yet, but she realized that if she kept it a secret, and they found out later, they would feel betrayed. Besides, she would want to know if it happened to one of them.

"Okay, I'll give you all the details, but you better sit down." Kelly sat down herself. The others seated themselves on the bed and waited in anticipation. Kelly took a deep breath.

"Are you ready for this?"

The girls were all staring at her open-mouthed. Kelly had just finished telling them the whole story, and for once, they were speechless. It didn't last long however. Suddenly they were firing questions at her.

"What's he like?"

"Did he kiss you?"

"Did he say anything about the other guys?"

"When do I get to meet Nick?" This last question came from Hayley, of course.

Kelly laughed and held up her hand. "Whoa! I can only answer one question at a time!"

Beth, always the practical one, said, "Oh my gosh, look at the time! We need to get out of here."

"She's right. Let's go and I'll answer all your questions on the way to the airport," said Kelly.

They were riding together and would say their goodbyes there, since their flights all left within hours of each other. They quickly loaded up their luggage, and headed out.

But all the while Kelly couldn't shake the feeling that she was missing something.

Kelly leaned back in her seat and took a deep breath. Now she could finally relax, and have some time to reflect on everything that had happened. It had been an incredible weekend, one that she wouldn't forget for a long time.

She had said goodbye to each of her friends, with tears in her eyes. "I'm gonna miss you guys so much," she had said. They had all hugged a million times before they left, each going their separate ways. Hayley was flying back to New York, Beth to Iowa, Kimberly to Kentucky, and Kelly to California. None of them knew when would be the next time they would be able to get together.

Now as Kelly closed her eyes, she thought about each of her friends and how much they meant to her.

Then her thoughts moved on to Kevin, and the night she had spent with him just talking and getting to know each other. She remembered his hands on the piano next to hers. She remembered the look in his eyes when he asked her to sing for him. She remembered the electricity that had gone through her when their hands had touched. She thought again of how her song had sounded when he had played along side her. She wished she had been able to tape it to listen to later. She wanted to remember some of the added notes Kevin had played. She thought maybe if she got out her music, she could write down some of the notes while they were still fresh in her mind.

Where had she put that? She checked her carry-on bag, but it wasn't in there. She checked her purse, but it wasn't there either. Think, Kelly, think. What did you do with it? She thought back to the night in the lounge, when she had been playing her songs. She had it with her at the piano. And when she had realized she wasn't going to get any work done on it, she had....put it in her back pocket! The same back pocket that she had pulled that folded paper out of to write her phone number on for Kevin.

Oh no! The paper she had given Kevin had been her song lyrics!
