Oakman- the Family name origin

OAKMAN as related to this family group is unique. There is no genealogical lineage to any other family or group with this name.

At the turn of the century,orphans in over-crowded institutions on the eastern seasboard were sent to foster families throughout the western States.

In 1901 a male child with the paternal and maternal sur names of Russel and Curtis was sent, together with six other orphans from New York, to San Luis, Colorado. The child was placed in the foster care of Juan and Luisa Romero and became know as Joe Romero.
In 1933 Joe Romero decreed that his family, then consisting of a wife and five children , would henceforth be named Oakman.

Thus the origin of this unique OAKMAN family.
