Jesse Bryant was born 16 December 1793 in Edgecombe County North Carolina, and died 07 January 1887 in Pulaski County Georgia (See Obit of Jesse Bryant). He married (1) Margaret ? about 1815 in North Carolina. She was born 02 June 1796 in Anson County North Carolina, and died 16 March 1867 in Pulaski County Georgia (See Holland Cemetary). He married (2) Mary E. Sandiford 31 January 1867 in Pulaski County Georgia (See Pulaski Co. Marriages, 1851-1900), daughter of Thomas Sandiford and Elizabeth Baker. She was born 1822 in Liberty County Georgia.
Notes for Jesse Bryant:
On October 11, 1819, Jesse purchased 200 acres of
land in Anson County, NC from Benjamin and Rebeca Thomas. This deed
was witnessed by John Mullis and Edward Vann. (Provided by George
Thomas).
"Many of the people in Anson County had their land sold by court order in the 1820's and 1830's. The gold rush took people away from their farming. People over extended, buying and dreaming of riches. They still had their farms to run. I think maybe there was a drought driven recession in the early thirties. Payments were coming due and people just flat out went broke." (Provided by George Thomas).
"A letter from Goldsboro, GA informs us of the death of Uncle Jesse Bryant, at the home of his son (Joel B. Bryant) in the upper part of Pulaski Co. on the 7th day of this month. Uncle Jesse was no doubt the oldest man in this county. He was born in NC 16 Dec 1793 and his death on the 7th day of Jan. 1887 shows that he was in the 94th year of his age. Mr. Bryant moved from NC to GA in 1832. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church for 60 years and was regarded by all who knew him as a Christian. Mr. Bryant raised a family of 12 children and never called a doctor until his children were all grown. Of six sons, only one is living and four daughters." ("Marriages, Deaths and Etc. from the Hawkinsville Dispatch 1870-1888", by Nobles).
